ประวัติความเป็นมา

คณะครุศาสตร์ เป็นหน่วยงานที่จัดตั้งขึ้นพร้อมกับการก่อตั้งมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏเชียงใหม่ ตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2467 มีวิวัฒนาการจากโรงเรียนฝึกหัดครูประกาศนียบัตรกสิกรรมมณฑลพายัพ โรงเรียนฝึกหัดครูประกาศนียบัตรจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ โรงเรียนฝึกหัดครูเชียงใหม่ วิทยาลัยครูเชียงใหม่ จนได้มีการประกาศใช้ พ.ร.บ.วิทยาลัยครู เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2518 ทำให้วิทยาลัยสามารถเปิดสอนระดับปริญญาตรีได้ ในสาขาวิชาต่าง ๆ แต่อย่างไรก็ตามภารกิจทั้งหมดก็คือการผลิตและพัฒนาครู และในปี พ.ศ. 2528 ได้มีการประกาศใช้ พ.ร.บ.วิทยาลัยครูฉบับที่ 2 ทำให้มีการแยกสาขาการผลิตบัณฑิตออกเป็น 3 สาขา คือ สาขาการศึกษา ศิลปศาสตร์ และวิทยาศาสตร์ คณะวิชาครุศาสตร์จึงได้รับการประกาศจัดตั้งขึ้น พ.ศ. 2538 ได้มีการประกาศใช้ พ.ร.บ. สถาบันราชภัฏ พ.ศ. 2538 คณะวิชาครุศาสตร์ได้รับการประกาศภารกิจที่ชัดเจนให้เป็นคณะที่ทำการผลิตและพัฒนาครู พร้อมกับปรับชื่อใหม่เป็น “คณะครุศาสตร์” และในปี พ.ศ. 2547 พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงโปรดเกล้าฯ ลงพระราชปรมาภิทัย พระราชทานนามเปลี่ยนสถานะสถาบันราชภัฏเป็น “มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏ” ตั้งแต่วันที่ 14 มิถุนายน 2547 จึงทำให้คณะครุศาสตร์ เป็นหน่วยงานสังกัดมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏเชียงใหม่ ที่มีภารกิจสำคัญในการผลิตและพัฒนาครูสู่ความเป็นเลิศเพื่อออกไปรับใช้สังคมท้องถิ่นของประเทศชาติต่อไป
