ความเป็นมา

        ก๊อบแก๊บเป็นกีฬาพื้นเมืองของชาวจังหวัดลำปางที่เล่นสืบทอดกันต่อมาเป็นเวลายาวนาน ไม่ปรากฏหลักฐานว่ามีการเล่นกีฬาชนิดนี้ตั้งแต่เมื่อใด สมัยใด แต่พบว่ามีการเล่นลักษณะคล้ายกัน เรียกว่าแข่งเดินต่อเท้าสูงจากพื้นแล้วในสมัยรัชกาลที่ ๖ แห่งกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ (สามัคยาจารย์สมาคม, ๒๔๖๑ : ๑๑๑๘) อย่างไรก็ตาม อย่างน้อยพบว่ามีการเล่นกีฬานี้แล้วในสมัยรัชกาลที่ ๗ (จันทร์โพธิ์สนาม, สัมภาษณ์ ๒๓ เมษายน ๒๕๒๖)
