นอกจากโบราณสถานที่เก่าแก่แสดงถึงความเจริญรุ่งเรืองของเมืองแล้วยังมีวัฒนธรรมประเพณีที่สืบทอดมาจนถึงปัจจุบันที่สำคัญก็คือ “ประเพณีนบพระเล่นเพลง” ซึ่งเป็นการทำบุญในวันเพ็ญเดือนสาม หรือวันมาฆบูชาประวัติและความเป็นมา

ประเพณีนบพระ-เล่นเพลงของชาวกำแพงเพชรนั้น ได้นำคำในศิลาจารึกศรีนครชุม หลักที่ ๓ มาเป็นชื่องาน มีความว่า “ผู้ใดไหว้นบ กระทำบูชาพระศรีรัตนมหาธาตุ และพระศรีมหาโพธิไซร้ มีผล อานิสงส์พร่ำเสมอดังได้นบพระผู้เป็นเจ้า…” คำว่า “นบ” เป็นคำโบราณ แปลว่า ไหว้ ดังนั้น การนบพระจึง หมายความว่า “ไหว้พระ”

สำหรับคำว่าเล่นเพลง คือ การละเล่นสนุกสนานพื้นบ้าน โดยมีการร้องเพลงพื้นบ้าน มีชาย หญิงร่วมร้องและร่ายรำเป็นที่สนุกภายหลังจากได้ทำบุญทำกุศลแล้ว

งานประเพณีนบพระ-เล่นเพลงในแผ่นดินพระเจ้าลิไทจัดครั้งแรกเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2526 ด้วย ความร่วมมือของจังหวัดกำแพงเพชร กรมศิลปากร และการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย ในการจัดงานครั้งนั้นทางผู้จัดได้นำเอาประวัติศาสตร์ในแผ่นดินพระเจ้าลิไท ตอนเสด็จ พระราชดำเนินนำพระมเหสี ข้าราชบริพาร ตลอดจนไพร่ข้าแผ่นดินชาวเมืองชากังราว และเมืองนครชุมไปนมัสการพระพุทธบาทที่เขาสุมนกูฏ เมืองสุโขทัย แล้วมาถวายสักการะบูชาพระศรีรัตนมหาธาตุ ณ วัดพระบรมธาตุ นครชุม มาเป็นตอนสำคัญของงาน

สถานที่จัดงาน คือ บริเวณวัดพระบรมธาตุนครชุม จะมีการแสดงพระราชประวัติ ตอนพระ เจ้าลิไทไปทำการนบพระ พร้อมด้วยมเหสี และข้าราชบริพาร เริ่มต้นขบวนที่บริเวณวัดพระบรมธาตุนครชุม เมื่อนบพระเรียบร้อยแล้วก็มีการรำโคม รำถวายเป็นพุทธบูชา จากนั้นขบวนพยุหยาตราทางสถลมารคของ พระเจ้าลิไทก็เคลื่อนออกจากวัดเข้าสู่เมืองกำแพงเพชรตอนค่ำมีมหรสพแสดงให้ชมหลายอย่างด้วยกัน และที่สำคัญคือ การเล่นเพลง ที่แสดงโดย นักศึกษาวิทยาลัยครูกำแพงเพชร เล่นได้ดีเป็นที่สนใจของผู้มาเที่ยวงาน ส่วนบริเวณวัดพระแก้ว มีการแสดง แสงและเสียง เรื่องเกี่ยวกับประวัติความเป็นมาของเมืองกำแพงเพชร ส่วนในภาคกลางวันมีการออกร้าน และบริการนำเที่ยวโบราณสถาน โดยใช้เกวียนเป็น พาหนะ
