ปัจจุบันเด็กด้อยโอกาสจะมีอัตราที่สูงขึ้นเรื่อยๆในแต่ละปี ซึ่งปัญหาเด็กด้อยโอกาสเป็นปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นในประเทศไทยมาเป็นเวลายาวนาน จึงทำให้ประเทศขาดการพัฒนาและนำมาซึ่งความสูญเสียทางเศรษฐกิจสะสมประมาณ 5 เท่าของ GDP จากสาเหตุดังกล่าวจึงทำการศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการเพิ่มขึ้นของจำนวนเด็กด้อยโอกาส โดยใช้ข้อมูลทุติยภูมิแบบภาคตัดขวางและใช้กลุ่มตัวอย่างทั้ง 77 จังหวัด ซึ่งประกอบไปด้วย 2 ส่วนคือ การวิเคราะห์ปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการเพิ่มขึ้นของจำนวนเด็กด้อยโอกาสในระดับประเทศ และระดับภูมิภาค ใช้ข้อมูลปี พ.ศ.2556 วิเคราะห์โดยใช้สมการถดถอย Multiple Regression ซึ่งเป็นกระบวนการทางสถิติ ผลจากการศึกษาพบว่า ปัจจัยที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการเพิ่มขึ้นของจำนวนเด็กด้อยโอกาสเกิดจาก รายได้ หนี้สิน จำนวนผู้ว่างงาน การตั้งครรภ์ก่อนวัยอันควรและการจับกุมยาเสพติด ดังนั้นควรแก้ไขปัญหาโดยกำหนดมาตรการและนโยบายให้เหมาะสมกับปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้น เพื่อให้บรรลุผลอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ
