การศึกษาครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์หลัก เพื่อ
1) เพื่อศึกษาเส้นทางท่องเที่ยวในเขตชุมชนรอบกว๊านพะเยา 2) เพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมของกลุ่มผู้มาเยือน นักท่องเที่ยวที่มาในเขตชุมชนรอบกว๊านพะเยา และ 3) เพื่อจัดทำโปรแกรมสื่อความหมายในแหล่งท่องเที่ยวชุมชนรอบกว๊านพะเยาที่เหมาะสมกับภูมิทัศน์วัฒนธรรม กลุ่มตัวอย่างและผู้ให้ข้อมูลหลักในการศึกษามี 5 กลุ่มคือ
