ผมคิดว่ารูปแบบการสื่อสารแบบทางเดียวเป็นการสื่อสารที่ต้องมีฝ่ายหนึ่งพูด และอีกฝ่ายต้องรับฟัง เช่นการบรรยายในงานวิชาการ หรือการที่พ่อแม่อบรมสั่งสอนเด็ก ซึ่งในบางครั้งหากพ่อแม่ต้องการถามเด็ก เด็กก็ต้องตอบคำถาม จึงเกิดเป็นการสื่อสารแบบสองทาง
การติดต่อสื่อสารแบบสองทาง จะเป็นการสนทนาพูดคุยโต้ตอบกันตั้งแต่ 2 คนขึ้นไป ในการใช้ชีวิตประจำวันของมนุษย์ จะต้องมีการสนทนา พูดคุยกัน เพื่อสื่อให้อีกฝ่ายเข้าใจในสิ่งที่ตนเองพูด เช่น การสนทนาระหว่างแม่ค้า กับลูกค้า ที่ต้องสอบถามเรื่องราคาของสินค้าที่จำหน่าย หรือการสนทนาพูดคุยทางโทรศัพท์ การเจรจาซื้อขายสินค้า ซึ่งเป็นการสนทนาที่ต้องพูดโต้ตอบกันทั้งสองฝ่าย เพื่อให้เข้าใจตรงกัน
