สำหรับแผนพีดีพีฉบับใหม่ที่จะเข้าสู่ที่ประชุม กพช. ในเดือน ธ.ค.2557 นี้ ขณะนี้กำลังเร่งเตรียมรายละเอียดไว้แล้ว โดยเบื้องต้นเป็นการพยากรณ์ความต้องการใช้ไฟฟ้าบนพื้นฐานเศรษฐกิจของประเทศในระยะ 20 ปี จะเติบโตประมาณ 4-5% ต่อปี ส่วนปริมาณความต้องการใช้ไฟฟ้าเฉลี่ยทั้ง 20 ปีนั้น ขณะนี้อยู่ระหว่างการคำนวณ และคาดว่าจะเสร็จประมาณต้นเดือน ธ.ค.2557 นี้ และนำเข้า กพช. พิจารณาต่อไป

แหล่งข่าวกล่าวถึงความ คืบหน้าโครงการโรงไฟฟ้าพลัง งานแสงอาทิตย์ (โซลาร์ฟาร์ม) ว่า หลังจากคณะกรรมการนโยบาย พลังงานแห่งชาติ (กพช.) ที่มี พล.อ. ประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา นายกรัฐมนตรี เมื่อวันที่ 15 ส.ค.57 ที่ผ่านมา มีมติให้เปลี่ยนโครงการโซลาร์ชุมชน 800 เมกะวัตต์ มาเป็นโครงการโซลาร์ในหน่วยงานราชการและสหกรณ์การเกษตร รวม 800 เมกะวัตต์ ซึ่งหน่วยงานราชการที่มีพื้นที่มากเพียงพอที่จะดำเนินโครงการโซลาร์ฟาร์ม ส่วนใหญ่เป็นพื้นที่ในค่ายทหารที่กระจายตามจังหวัด ล่าสุดได้มีภาคเอกชนยื่นขออนุญาตทำโซลาร์ฟาร์ม จำนวน 5 ราย กำลังการผลิตรวม 310 เมกะวัตต์ และอีก 1 ราย ที่มีการเซ็นเอ็มโอยูกับกองทัพบกไปแล้ว กำลังการผลิต 90 เมกะวัตต์ รวม 400 เมกะวัตต์.
