Persons wishing to be admitted to practice must undertake an approved course of study. In Victoria this includes the successful completion of the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or the Master of Law (Juris Doctor). The LLB and Juris Doctor course include 11 compulsory subjects (the “Priestly 11”) that must be completed before a graduate can practise law. In Victoria, seven universities have been approved by the Council of Legal Education to provide academic law courses:

The University of Melbourne;
Monash University;
Deakin University;
La Trobe University;
Victoria University;
RMIT University;
Australian Catholic University.
