procedure (using a beaker). use a beaker with a vol about 25 % greater than that which the liquid will have at the end of the end of the titration thus a 250-ml beaker is appropriate for about 150 ml of a soln that is expected to require about 40 ml of titration soln. Use a saparate stirring rod with fire-polished ends for each soln the length of rod should be such that the rod projects only an inch or two above the top of the beaker when it rests in the beaker in rests in the beaker in the ordinary way Do not remove the rod from the soln before the completion of titration
have the tip of the buret only about an inch from the level of the liquid in the beaker Be sure that the tip of the buret is completely filled with the titrating soln and that the initial reading has been properly taken and recorded
if you are right-handed either 1 have the buret in reversed position (stopock handle at the left) and manipulate the stopcock with left hand or 2 have the buret in normal position (stopcock handle at the right) and with the left hand encircling the stopcock manipulate the stopcock with the thumb and fingers of the left hand stir the soln with the stirring rod held in the righthand
if you are left-handed use the buret in its noral position(stop-cock handle at the right) and mannipulate the stopcock with the tumb and fingers of the right hand stir with the left hand
in any case during the titration always exert a slight inward pressure on the stopcock to prevent it from the stopcock cavity
Run the soln from the buret slowly but steadily and gently and continually stir the soln in the buaker with the stirring rod held in the other hand do not allow the titrating soln to hit the upper upon the upon the upper part of the beaker
After a little experience it is usually possible to tell when a titration diffuse more and more slowly through the soln as the end point is approached At this point run the soln from the buret a drop at a time until the exact end point is reached in most titration however a soln that has been titrated beyond the end point can be back-titrated to the true end point with another appropriate titrating soln
