                          เขาใหญ่ เป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติแห่งแรกของประเทศไทย มีอาณาเขตรอบคลุม 11 อำเภอ ของ 4 จังหวัด คือ อำเภอมวกเหล็ก อำเภอแก่งคอย จังหวัดสระบุรี
อำเภอปากช่อง อำเภอวังน้ำเขียว จังหวัดนครราชสีมา อำเภอนาดี อำเภอกบินทร์บุรี อำเภอประจันตคาม อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดปราจีนบุรี และอำเภอปากพลี อำเภอบ้านนา
อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดนครนายก ได้รับสมญานามว่าเป็นอุทยานมรดกของกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียน เป็นผืนใหญ่ตั้งอยู่ในเทือกเขาพนมดงรัก ในส่วนหนึ่งของดงพญาเย็นหรือ
ดงพญาไฟในอดีตประกอบด้วยขุนเขาน้อยใหญ่สลับซับซ้อนหลายลูก เป็นแหล่งกำเนิดของ ต้นน้ำลำธารที่สำคัญหลายสาย เช่น แม่น้ำนครนายก และแม่น้ำมูล
อุดมสมบูรณ์ไปด้วยพันธุ์ไม้และสัตว์ป่านานาชนิด เช่น ช้างป่า กวางป่า เก้ง กระทิง เสือ ตลอดจนมีลักษณะทางธรรมชาติที่สวยงามมีเนื้อที่ 1,353,471.53 ไร่
