วัดร่องขุ่น เริ่มก่อสร้างตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2540 โดยท่านอาจารย์เฉลิมชัย โฆษิตพิพัฒน์ จิตรกรชั้นแนวหน้าของไทย ซึ่งได้รับแรงบันดาลใจในการสร้างมาจาก3 สิ่งต่อไปนี้คือ

1. ชาติ : ด้วยความรักบ้านเมือง รักงานศิลป์ จึงหวังสร้างงานศิลปะที่ยิ่งใหญ่ไว้เป็นสมบัติของแผ่นดิน
2. ศาสนา : ธรรมะได้เปลี่ยนชีวิตของอาจารย์เฉลิมชัยจากจิตที่ร้อนกลายเป็นเย็น จึงขออุทิศตนให้แก่พระพุทธศาสนา
3. พระมหากษัตริย์ : จากการเข้าเฝ้าฯ ถวายงานพระองค์ท่านหลายครั้ง ทำให้อาจารย์เฉลิมชัยรักพระองค์ท่านมาก จากการพบเห็นพระอัจฉริยะภาพทางศิลปะและพระเมตตาของพระองค์ท่าน จนบังเกิดความตื้นตันและสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณ

ดังนั้นอาจารย์จึงได้สร้างงานพุทธศิลป์ถวายเป็นงานศิลปะประจำรัชกาลพระองค์ท่าน โดยปรารถนาจะสร้างวัดให้เหมือนเมืองสวรรค์ที่มนุษย์สัมผัสได้ บนพื้นที่เดิมของวัด 3 ไร่ และอาจารย์เฉลิมชัย โฆษิตพิพัฒน์ ได้บริจาคทรัพย์สินส่วนตัว และคุณวันชัย วิชญชาคร เป็นผู้บริจาคที่ดินประมาณ 7 ไร่เศษ รวมเงินบริจาคของผู้มีจิตศรัทธาอื่นๆ จนถึงปัจจุบันมีเนื้อที่ทั้งหมดประมาณ 12 ไร่ และมีพระกิตติพงษ์ กัลยาโณ รักษาการเจ้าอาวาสองค์ปัจจุบัน

ลักษณะเด่นของวัด
