จุดประสงค์หลักของการเปิดเส้นทางบินตรงภายในประเทศจากเหนือสู่ใต้ครั้งนี้ ก็เพื่ออำนวยความสะดวกให้แก่นักท่องเที่ยวในแถบภาคเหนือให้สามารถบินมาเที่ยวทะเลใต้ในช่วงปลายปีที่เป็นฤดูการท่องเที่ยวได้สะดวกขึ้น และในทางกลับกันก็เป็นการอำนวยความสะดวกให้แก่นักท่องเที่ยวจากภาคใต้สามารถบินไปสัมผัสบรรยากาศหน้าหนาว ชมทะเลหมอกและดอกไม้บานยอดดอยในแหล่งท่องเที่ยวแถบภาคเหนือได้ง่ายขึ้น ซึ่งถือเป็นการกระตุ้นการเดินทางท่องเที่ยวทั้งจากตลาดนักท่องเที่ยวชาวไทย และนักท่องเที่ยวต่างประเทศโดยเฉพาะนักท่องเที่ยวจากประเทศจีนที่นิยมบินมาท่องเที่ยวในภาคเหนือของไทย โดยการเปิดเส้นทางบินตรงจากเหนือสู่ใต้ครั้งนี้นับเป็นการเปิดเส้นทางเดินทางท่องเที่ยวทางเลือกเพิ่มอีกเส้นทางให้แก่นักท่องเที่ยว
