100bn baht help for low-income earners & farmers
Providing assistance to low-income earners will be done mostly through a negative income tax — a system in which people earning below a certain amount will receive money from the government (a subsidy) instead of paying tax. The program will run in fiscal 2015 starting this Oct 1 and will cost an estimated 100 billion baht a year. An inheritance tax would also be levied ahead of a land and building tax. Currently, heirs are subject to a mere 10% tax of assets worth more than 50 million baht.
