A-Analyze คือ การวิเคราะห์หาสาเหตุที่ทำให้ผลผลิตของกระบวนการไม่เป็นไปตาม ที่กำหนด ซึ่งคือตัวสาเหตุของ Defect (Xs) ดังสมการทางคณิตศาสตร์นี้ Y = f (Xs) ตามที่ไม่เป็นไปตามเป้าหมายที่กำหนดในทางซิกซ์ ซิกม่า ถือเป็น Defect (Y) ฉะนั้นในขั้นตอนนี้ ทำการวิเคราะห์ปัจจัยใดบ้างที่ส่งผลต่อการเกิด Defect และนำมาเรียงลำดับความสำคัญเพื่อหาสาเหตุหลัก สาเหตุรอง (X1, X2, X3, ….)
โดยต้องรวบรวมข้อมูลและนำมาประมวลผลในเชิงสถิติ การทำงานทุกขั้นตอนต้องมีที่มาและพิสูจน์ได้อย่างชัดเจน ไม่ใช้ความเชื่อหรือความรู้สึกในการตัดสินใจ ทั้งนี้ เครื่องมือทางสถิติมีหลากหลายชนิด
