การเมืองการปกครอง
ปกครองในระบอบประชาธิปไตย โดยมีพระมหากษัตริย์เป็นประมุข เรียกว่า สมเด็จพระราชาธิบดี หรือ ยังดี เปอร์กวน อากง (Yang dipertuan Agong) ซึ่งเลือกจากเจ้าครองรัฐต่างๆ ผลัดเวียนกันทุก 5 ปี ส่วนระบบรัฐบาล มีทั้งรัฐบาลกลางแห่งสหพันธรัฐและรัฐบาลแห่งรัฐปกครองแบบรัฐสภา ประกอบด้วย 2 สภา คือ สภาผู้แทนราษฎร และวุฒิสภา โดยมีนายกรัฐมนตรีมีอำนาจสูงสุดของฝ่ายบริหารโดยประมุขของประเทศเป็นผู้แต่งตั้ง
มาเลเซียแบ่งเขตการปกครองออกเป็น 13 รัฐ ซึ่งแต่ละรัฐผู้ปกครองรัฐของตน และมี 3 เขตที่อยู่ภายใต้การปกครองของรัฐบาลกลางแห่งสหพันธรัฐ
ประวัติ
*มาเลเซียเคยตกเป็นเมืองขึ้นของประเทศต่างๆ ตั้งแต่ พ.ศ.2054 โดยถูก โปรตุเกส ยึดครองช่องแคบมะละกาซึ่งเป็นเส้นทางการค้าสำคัญในขณะนั้น และต่อมาตกเป็นของ ชาวดัตช์หรือเนเธอร์แลนด์
*ในพ.ศ.2359 ไทยหรือสยาม ได้ ไทรบุรี (เกดะห์) กลันตันและตรังกานู เป็นเมืองขึ้น
*พ.ศ.2367 อังกฤษ เข้ายึดครองต่อจากดัตช์และได้จัดตั้งเขตปกครองรวม ปีนัง มะละกา และสิงคโปร์ เรียกว่า เขตจัดตั้งช่องแคบ (The Straits Settlements)
*มาเลเซียได้รับเอกราชในวันที่ 31 สิงหาคม พ.ศ.2500 โดยใช้ชื่อประเทศว่า สหพันธรัฐมาลายา และมีนายกรัฐมนตรีคนแรกชื่อ ตนกู อับดุล ราห์มาน
