จากสถานการณ์ปัจจุบันอุตสาหกรรมการผลิตอาหารในประเทศไทยมีการเจริญเติบโตได้อย่างรวดเร็ว จึงทำให้มีปริมาณของเสียจากการผลิตมีมากขึ้นตามมา ถ้าหากมีการจัดเก็บที่ไม่มีคุณภาพก็จะก็ให้เกิดกลิ่นที่ไม่พึงประสงค์และทำลายทัศนียภาพ ประกอบกับว่าประเทศไทยมีความต้องการใช้พลังงานงานไฟฟ้าในปริมาณที่มากขึ้น จึงได้เล็งเห็นว่าก๊าซชีวภาพจากของเสียนี้ก็สามารถเป็นแหล่งพลังงานทดแทนอีกรูปแบบหนึ่งได้ งานวิจัยนี้จึงทำการศึกษาเปรียบเทียบกระบวนการผลิตก๊าซชีวภาพเปรียบเทียบระหว่างใช้ของเสียจากฟาร์มสัตว์เลี้ยง กับวัสดุเหลือทิ้งจากการเกษตร เพื่อที่สามารถลดใช้พลังงานงานการใช้ไฟฟ้าจากฟอสซิลลง และลดการนำเข้าพลังงานงานจากต่างประเทศยังเป็นการลดมลภาวะก๊าซเรือนกระจกที่เกิดจากของเสียอีกด้วย
