ธรรมบท...เรื่องนางยักษ์ชื่อกาลี

พระพุทธเจ้า ตรัสพระคาถานี้แก่นางยักษ์ชื่อกาลีและหญิงคนหนึ่ง ดังนี้


พระพุทธเจ้า ตรัสพระคาถาภาษิตว่า...
“เพราะว่าในกาลไหนๆ เวรทั้งหลายในโลกนี้
ย่อมไม่สงบระงับด้วยเวร
แต่เวรทั้งหลายย่อมสงบระงับด้วยการไม่จองเวร”


เรื่องนี้เป็นเรื่องการจองเวรแบบข้ามภพข้ามชาติมาหลายชาติโดยเริ่มจาก
ชาติแรก
สามีและภรรยาคู่หนึ่ง ภรรยาไม่มีลูกให้สามีไว้สืบสกุล

และเมื่อตั้งอยู่ในพระโสดาปัตติผลแล้ว ย่อมไม่ฆ่าสัตว์กินเป็นอาหาร
พระบรมศาสดา จึงให้นางกุลธิดา เลี้ยงดูแลนางยักษิณี ต่อไป


ซึ่งในกาลนั้น นางยักษิณีก็ได้ตอบแทนคุณให้แก่นางกุลธิดา
โดยพยากรณ์ฝนมากฝนน้อยให้เพื่อการทำนาของนางกุลธิดา
จะได้เจริญงอกงามไม่เสียหาย
จนนางกุลธิดา มีข้าวกล้าสมบูรณ์เต็มไปหมด ข้าวไม่เสียหาย
ชาวบ้านมาสอบถาม นางกุลธิดาจึงแนะให้ชาวเมืองเหล่านั้นไปดูแลเลี้ยงนางยักษ์บ้าง
