กรมพลศึกษาจับมือ ส.วู้ดบอลฯ จัดศึกชิงแชมป์เอเชียควบไทยแลนด์โอเพ่น ณ ห้องประชุมศุภชลาศัย สนามกีฬาแห่งชาติ เมื่อวันที่ 19 มิถุนายน 2558 ดร.กิตติพงษ์ โพธิมู รองอธิบดีกรมพลศึกษา รักษาราชการแทนอธิบดีกรมพลศึกษา เป็นประธานแถลงข่าวการแข่งขันวู้ดบอลชิงแชมป์เอเชีย ครั้งที่ 9 และวู้ดบอลไทยแลนด์โอเพ่น ครั้งที่ 8 ประจำปี 2558 โดยมี ดร.พัฒนาชาติ กฤดิบวร นายกสมาคมวู้ดบอลแห่งประเทศไทย, นายสุพนธ์ มณีธีรกุล ผู้อำนวยการสำนักการกีฬา ร่วมแถลง กรมพลศึกษา ร่วมกับ สมาคมวู้ดบอลแห่งประเทศไทย จัดการแข่งขันวู้ดบอลชิงแชมป์เอเชีย ครั้งที่ 9 และวู้ดบอลไทยแลนด์โอเพ่น ครั้งที่ 8 (9th Asian Cup Woodball Championship 2015 and 8th Thailand Open International Woodball Championship & Senior Age – Group (60 & above) Woodball Invitation Championship 2015) ระหว่างวันที่ 23 - 27 มิถุนายน 2558 ณ สนามกีฬาแห่งชาติ ปทุมวัน ซึ่งถือเป็นแผนยุทธศาสตร์ในการขับเคลื่อนกีฬาวู้ดบอลสู่มหกรรมการแข่งขันกีฬาซีเกมส์และเอเชี่ยนบีชเกมส์ รวมถึงเป็นการพัฒนาการกีฬาของประเทศไทยให้เป็นหนึ่งในกลุ่มผู้นำการกีฬาแห่งเอเชีย เพื่อมุ่งไปสู่จุดหมายสูงสุดคือ เป็นศูนย์กลางการกีฬาที่จะสามารถสร้างรายได้ สร้างอาชีพ สร้างความเป็นเลิศ และพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตที่ดีในสังคมอย่างยั่งยืน การแข่งขันวู้ดบอลชิงแชมป์เอเชีย ครั้งที่ 9 มีประเทศในทวีปเอเชียตอบรับเข้าร่วมการแข่งขันในครั้งนี้ทั้งสิ้น 14 ประเทศ จำนวนเกือบ 200 คน ประกอบด้วย ฮ่องกง, สิงคโปร์, ไต้หวัน, มองโกเลีย, ญี่ปุ่น, เวียดนาม, อินโดนีเซีย, จีน, เกาหลีใต้, อินเดีย, กัมพูชา, เมียนมาร์, ฟิลิปปินส์ และไทย แบ่งการแข่งขันออกเป็น 2 รุ่น คือ รุ่นทั่วไป และรุ่นเยาวชน โดยรุ่นทั่วไป แบ่งเป็น 2 ประเภท คือ แบบนับจำนวนการตี และแบบนับจำนวนประตู ส่วนรุ่นเยาวชน แข่งเฉพาะแบบนับจำนวนการตี ด้านการแข่งขันวู้ดบอลไทยแลนด์โอเพ่น ครั้งที่ 8 มีนักกีฬาจากทั่วประเทศไทย และอีก 6 ประเทศ จำนวนกว่า 600 คน เข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน ประกอบด้วย ไต้หวัน, มองโกเลีย, อินโดนีเซีย, ฮ่องกง, สิงคโปร์ และอูกันด้า แบ่งออกเป็น 2 รุ่น คือ รุ่นทั่วไป และรุ่น 60 ปีขึ้นไป ซึ่งจะแข่งขันเฉพาะแบบนับจำนวนการตี สำหรับการแข่งขันจะเริ่มขึ้นในวันอังคารที่ 23 มิถุนายน 2558 จะมีพิธีเปิดการแข่งขันอย่างเป็นทางการในวันพุธที่ 24 มิถุนายน 2558 เวลา 18.00 น. ณ อาคารกีฬานิมิบุตร และพิธีปิดในวันเสาร์ที่ 27 มิถุนายน 2558 ที่สนามศุภชลาศัย
