This time, we introduce the health and safety activities by Toyota Plant. In Toyota Plant, we have been promoting activities on the theme of "Establishment of basic rules for troubleshooting" since FY2015.
Reviewing the work-related accidents occurred in the past 10 years, such 31% of the total
accidents had occurred during the troubleshooting without stopping the machine. In recent
years, accidents occurred during "Troubleshooting for automatic welding machine"
in May 2014 and "Troubleshooting for assembly machine" in April 2015 in such sequent years.
In response to this situation, we launched a sub-committee for the establishment of
"Basic rules for troubleshooting" and have started the activities.
Considering the basic rule for troubleshooting "Cut off the power source to work with the
body or any parts of the body put inside the machine", we started with finding any works
where this rule cannot apply. For some machines that take unexpected movement or may
break due to the power source blocking, we made the corresponding methods to be
described in the work standards of each workplace so as to prevent accidents.
In that way, we have established the new "Basic rules for troubleshooting" conducting
education for troubleshooters. In addition, we adopt "Pinched-experiencing machine" to
let people deepen the understanding of hazards of residual pressure and wait state, etc.
The educations are scheduled to be completed in mid-Oct. having approx. 160 participants
