การวิจัยครั้งนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาระดับการมีส่วนร่วมทางการเมืองการปกครองท้องถิ่นของประชาชนในเขตเทศบาลตำบลคำใหญ่ อำเภอห้วยเม็ก จังหวัดกาฬสินธุ์ เพื่อเปรียบเทียบความคิดเห็นของประชาชนต่อการมีส่วนร่วมทางการเมืองการปกครองท้องถิ่นของเทศบาลตำบลคำใหญ่ อำเภอห้วยเม็ก จังหวัดกาฬสินธุ์ จำแนกตามเพศ อายุ ระดับการศึกษา รายได้ และอาชีพ และเพื่อศึกษาข้อเสนอแนะของประชาชนเกี่ยวกับการมีส่วนร่วมในการเมืองการปกครองท้องถิ่นของเทศบาลตำบลคำใหญ่ อำเภอห้วยเม็ก จังหวัดกาฬสินธุ์ กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้ในการศึกษาครั้งนี้ ได้แก่ แหล่งข้อมูลเชิงปริมาณ คือ ประชาชนที่มีอายุตั้งแต่ 18 ปีขึ้นไป และมีสิทธิเลือกตั้งที่มีชื่อตามทะเบียนราษฎรที่อาศัยอยู่ในเขตพื้นที่เทศบาลตำบลคำใหญ่ อำเภอห้วยเม็ก จังหวัดกาฬสินธุ์ จำนวน 364 คนซึ่งได้มาโดยวิธีการคำนวณหาขนาดกลุ่มตัวอย่างตามสูตรของทาโร่ ยามาเน่ และใช้วิธีการสุ่มตัวอย่างโดยกำหนดสัดส่วนแล้วสุ่มตัวอย่างโดยบังเอิญ แหล่งข้อมูลเชิงคุณภาพ ผู้วิจัยได้กำหนดผู้ให้สัมภาษณ์ จำนวน 16 คน การเลือกผู้ให้ข้อมูลโดยการกำหนดแบบโควต้าตามสัดส่วนที่พอ ๆ กัน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยเป็นแบบสอบถามชนิดมาตราส่วนประมาณค่า 5 ระดับ จำนวน 40 ข้อ มีค่าความเชื่อมั่นเท่ากับ .95 และแบบสัมภาษณ์ ใช้การสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกเป็นรายบุคคล สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ การแจกแจงความถี่ ร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย ค่าส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และการพรรณนาความ และทำการทดสอบสมมติฐานด้วย t-test (Independent Sample) และการวิเคราะห์ความแปรปรวนทางเดียว F-test (One-Way ANOVA) และทดสอบความแตกต่างรายคู่โดยใช้วิธีของ LSD (Least Significant Different)
