จากข้อมูลสถิติของผู้มีงานทำในประเทศไทยแยกรายภูมิภาคปี พ.ศ.2547-2556 ดังแสดงในตารางที่ 3.2.6.1-1 พบว่า ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือเป็นภูมิภาคที่มีจำนวนผู้มีงานทำมากที่สุด โดยในปี พ.ศ.2556 มีจำนวนแรงงานทั้งสิ้น 12,759,818 คน คิดเป็นสัดส่วนร้อยละ 32.80 ของจำนวนแรงงานทั้งประเทศและมีอัตราการเพิ่มขึ้นเฉลี่ยช่วงปี พ.ศ.2547 – 2556 ที่ร้อยละ 1.71 ต่อปี รองลงมา ได้แก่ ภาคกลางมีจำนวนผู้มีงานทำทั้งหมด 9,559,218 คน คิดเป็นสัดส่วนร้อยละ 24.57 และมีอัตราการเพิ่มขึ้นเฉลี่ยช่วงปี พ.ศ.2547 – 2556 ร้อยละ 1.57 ต่อปี โดยภูมิภาคที่มีจำนวนผู้มีงานทำน้อยที่สุด ได้แก่ กรุงเทพมหานครและปริมณฑล มีจำนวนผู้มีงานทำทั้งหมด 3,877,207 คน และมีอัตราการขยายตัวของแรงงานเฉลี่ยช่วงปี พ.ศ.2547 – 2556 ลดลงร้อยละ 1.64 ต่อปี สำหรับแรงงานโดยรวมทั้งประเทศมีจำนวน 38,906,889 คน คิดเป็นอัตราการเพิ่มเฉลี่ยในช่วงปี พ.ศ.2547 – 2556 ที่ร้อยละ 1.27 ต่อปี
