จากการทดลองเพื่อหาสูตรอาหารเลี้ยงสาหร่ายจากปุ๋ยพืช พบว่า สูตรอาหาร 0.5 เท่ามีความใกล้เคียงกับสูตรอาหาร Modified CHU 13 ซึ่งเป็นสูตรที่ดีที่สุดในเลี้ยงสาหร่าย B. Braunii มากที่สุด รองลงมาคือสูตรอาหาร 0.5 เท่า
ส่วนลักษณะของสาหร่ายจะพบว่าบางโคโลนีมีการผลิตน้ำมันออกมาแล้ว โคโลนีบางโคโลนีอาจเป็นสีเขียว และบางโคโลนีเป็นสีน้ำตาล ในสัปดาห์ที่สองจะเห็นได้ชัดว่าสาหร่ายมีการเจริญเติบโตขึ้นเนื่องจากพบน้ำมันที่อยู่ในสาหร่าย
