ภาพถ่ายทางรังสีเป็นกุญแจสำคัญที่ช่วยในการวินิจฉัยโรค แต่การถ่ายภาพเอกซเรย์ต้องดำเนินการให้เป็นไปอย่างมีคุณภาพมาตรฐาน เพื่อป้องกันไม่ให้ผู้รับบริการได้รับรังสีเกินความจำเป็น ดังนั้นจึงจำเป็นจะต้องนำระบบคุณภาพมาควบคุมกำกับการปฏิบัติงาน ทั้งนี้ในปี พ.ศ. 2555 กรมวิทยาศาสตร์การแพทย์ได้มีการจัดทำเกณฑ์และแนวทางการพัฒนางานรังสีวินิจฉัยในโรงพยาบาลสังกัดกระทรวงสาธารณสุข ขึ้น เพื่อให้มีการตรวจประเมินคุณภาพงานรังสีวินิจฉัยของโรงพยาบาล โดยมีการประเมิน 3 ส่วน คือ ความปลอดภัย บริการรังสีวินิจฉัย และ คุณภาพบริการ สำหรับปีงบประมาณ 2558 ศูนย์วิทยาศาสตร์การแพทย์ที่ 9 นครราชสีมา ได้ตรวจประเมินโรงพยาบาลสังกัดกระทรวงสาธารณสุขจำนวน 56 แห่ง พบว่า ผ่านเกณฑ์การประเมิน 25 แห่ง(ร้อยละ44.64) โดย ผ่านเกณฑ์ขั้นพื้นฐาน จำนวน 1 แห่ง(ร้อยละ 1.79) ผ่านเกณฑ์ขั้นดี จำนวน 16 แห่ง(ร้อยละ 28.57) และ ผ่านเกณฑ์ขั้นดีเด่น จำนวน 8 แห่ง(ร้อยละ 14.29) โดยส่วนที่มีการพัฒนามากที่สุดคือ ส่วนที่ 3 คุณภาพบริการ คะแนนเฉลี่ยร้อยละ 87.2 รองลงมาคือ ส่วนที่ 1 ความปลอดภัย คะแนนเฉลี่ย ร้อยละ 72.9 ต่ำสุด คือ ส่วนที่ 2 บริการรังสีวินิจฉัย คะแนนเฉลี่ยร้อยละ 70.5 ข้อบกพร่องที่พบมากที่สุดคือไม่มีการควบคุมคุณภาพตู้ส่องดูฟิล์มหรือจอภาพ ไม่มีแผนการควบคุมคุณภาพเครื่องมือทางรังสี ขาดการประเมินค่าปริมาณรังสีที่ผู้ป่วยได้รับจากการถ่ายภาพรังสีวินิจฉัยและบุคลากรทางด้านรังสีไม่เพียงพอตามภาระงาน ทั้งนี้ได้นำปัญหาที่พบนำเสนอให้โรงพยาบาลเพื่อวางแผนในการพัฒนาต่อไป
