งานเทศกาลไหมเป็นงานที่จังหวัดขอนแก่นได้จัดขึ้นทุกปี เริ่มตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. ๒๕๒๒ จนถึงปัจจุบันโดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อส่งเสริมอาชีพการทอผ้าไหม มีหน่วยงานทั้งภาครัฐและเอกชนร่วมออกร้านแสดงผลิตภัณฑ์และจำหน่ายสินค้าพื้นเมือง (ผ้าไหม) และของที่ระลึกอื่น ๆ นอกจากนี้ยังมีการแสดงเพื่อฟื้นฟูและส่งเสริมศิลปวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น ที่มีการจัดขึ้นปีละหนึ่งครั้ง ทำให้เป็นที่สนใจของผู้คนจำนวนมาก ที่มาดูงานและเลือกซื้อของ งานเทศกาลไหม ประเพณีผูกเสี่ยวและงานกาชาดจังหวัดขอนแก่น หรือที่นิยมเรียกกันว่า"งานไหม หรือ งานเทศกาลไหม” จัดขึ้นในครั้งแรกเมื่อปี ๒๕๒๒ สมัยนายชำนาญ พจนา เป็นผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัด โดยมีรองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดที่มีบทบาทสำคัญในการวางรากฐานการจัดงานอยู่ ๒ คน คือ นายเอนก โรจน์ไพบูลย์ และนายจรินทร์ กาญจโนมัย ริเริ่มและผลักดันจนเป็นที่ยอมรับและได้รับความสนใจแพร่หลายจนทุกวันนี้ เพื่อให้คนในท้องถิ่นและคนในชาติมีความรักใคร่กลมเกลียว สมัครสมานสามัคคีและช่วยเหลือเกื้อกูลกันคำว่า "เสี่ยว" เป็นภาษาถิ่นอีสาน แปลว่า มิตรแท้ เพื่อนแท้ เพื่อนตาย มีความผูกพัน ซื่อสัตย์ และจริงใจต่อกัน
