กีฬาเรือบกเป็นการเล่นเพื่อความสนุกสนานของชาวจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ซึ่งดัดแปลงรูปแบบการเล่นมาจากการแข่งเรือในน้ำ โดยใช้วัสดุอุปกรณ์ที่มีตามธรรมชาติคือไม้ไผ่ลำยาวเป็นลำเรือใช้ขี่ เพื่อวิ่งแข่งขันกัน นิยมเล่นในงานประจำปี หรืองานรื่นเริงต่างๆ และงานประเพณีทางศาสนาของหมู่บ้าน บางครั้งก็มีการจัดให้แข่งขันกันเป็นรั้งคราว ปัจจุบันยังเป็นที่นิยมเล่นกันอยู่ในชนบท
ผู้เล่น : เล่นได้ทุกเพศทุกวัย ตามปกติจะแบ่งผู้เล่นออกเป็นพวก พวกละประมาณ 10 คน โดยจะจัดให้วัยและขนาดร่างกายใกล้เคียงกัน
