ความอดทน คือ อะไร

ความอดทน มาจากคำว่า ขันติ หมายถึง การรักษาปกติภาวะของตนไว้ได้ ไม่ว่าจะถูกกระทบกระทั่งด้วยสิ่งอันเป็นที่พึงปรารถนาหรือไม่พึงปรารถนาก็ตาม มีความมั่นคงหนักแน่นไม่หวั่นไหว

งานทุกชิ้นในโลกไม่ว่าจะเป็นงานเล็กงานใหญ่ ที่สำเร็จขึ้นมาได้ นอกจากจะอาศัยปัญญาเป็นตัวนำแล้ว ล้วนต้องอาศัยคุณธรรมข้อหนึ่งเป็นพื้นฐาน จึงสำเร็จได้ คุณธรรมข้อนั้นคือ ขันติ หรือความอดทนนั่นเอง

ถ้าขันติเสียแล้ว จะไม่มีงานชิ้นใดสำเร็จได้เลย เพราะขันติเป็นคุณธรรมสำหรับทั้งต่อต้านความท้อถอยหดหู่ ขับเคลื่อนเร่งเร้าให้เกิดความขยัน และทำให้อุปสรรคต่างๆ เป็นเครื่องท้าทายความสามารถ


ลักษณะความอดทนที่ถูกต้อง

1.มีความอดกลั่น คือเมื่อถูกคนพาลกล่าวหาว่าร้าย ก็ทำราวกับว่าไม่ได้ยินทำหูเหมือนหูกระทะ เมื่อเห็นอาการยั่วยุก็ทำราวกับว่าไม่ได้เห็น ไม่สนใจใยดี ไม่ปล่อยใจให้เศร้าหมองไปด้วย ใส่ใจสนใจแต่ในเรื่องที่จะทำความเจริญให้แก่ตนเอง เช่น เจริญศีล สมาธิ ปัญญา ให้ยิ่งๆขึ้นไป


2.เป็นผู้ไม่ดุร้าย คือสามารถข่มความโกรธไว้ได้ ไม่โกรธ ไม่ทำร้าย ทำอันตรายด้วยอำนาจแห่งความโกรธนั้น ผู้ที่โกรธง่ายแสดงว่ายังขาดความอดทน มีคำตรัสของท้าวสักกะเป็นข้อเตือนใจอยู่ว่า

"ผู้ใดโกรธตอบผู้ที่โกรธแล้ว ผู้นั้นกลับเป็นคนเลวกว่าผู้ที่โกรธก่อน ผู้ที่ไม่โกรธต่อบุคคลผู้กำลังโกรธอยู่ ย่อมชื่อว่า เป็นผู้ชนะสงครามอันชนะได้ยากยิ่ง"


3.ไม่ปลูกน้ำตาให้แก่ใครๆ คือไม่ก่อทุกข์ให้แก่ผู้อื่น ไม่ทำให้ผู้อื่นเดือดร้อนหรือเจ็บแค้นใจจนน้ำตาไหล ด้วยอำนาจความเกรี้ยวกราดของตน


4.มีใจเบิกบานแจ่มใสอยู่เป็นนิตย์ คือมีปีติอิ่มเอิบใจเสมอๆ ไม่พยาบาท ไม่โทษฟ้า โทษฝน โทษเทวดา โทษโชคชะตา หรือโทษใครๆ ทั้งนั้น พยายามอดทนทำการงานทุกอย่างด้วยใจเบิกบาน

ลักษณะความอดทนนั้น โบราณท่านสอนลูกหลานไว้ ว่า...

"ปิดหูซ้ายขวา ปิดตาสองข้าง

ปิดปากเสียบ้าง นอนนั่งสบาย"


บางคนขี้เกียจทำงาน บางคนขี้เกียจเรียนหนังสือ บางคนเกะกะเกเร พอมีผู้ว่ากล่าวตักเตือนก็เฉยเสีย แล้วบอกว่าตนเองกำลังบำเพ็ญขันติบารมี อย่างนี้เป็นการเข้าใจผิด ตีความหมายของขันติผิดไป ขันติไม่ได้หมายถึงการตกอยู่ในสภาพใดก็ทนอยู่อย่างนั้น

ลักษณะที่สำคัญยิ่งของขันติ คือตลอดเวลาที่อดทนอยู่นั้น จะต้องมีใจผ่องใส ไม่เศร้าหมอง


ลักษณะของขันติ

1.อดทนถอนตัวหรือหลีกเลี่ยงจากความชั่วให้ได้

2.อดทนทำความดีต่อไป

3.อดทนรักษาใจไว้ให้ผ่องใส ไม่เศร้าหมอง


ประเภทของความอดทน แบ่งตามสาเหตุที่มากระทบ

1.อดทนต่อความลำบากตรากตรำ เป็นการอดทนต่อสภาพธรรมชาติ ดินฟ้าอากาศ ความหนาว ความร้อน ฝนตก แดดออก ฯลฯ ก็อดทนทำงานเรื่อยไป ไม่ใช่เอาแต่โทษเทวดาฟ้าดิน หรืออ้างเหตุเหล่านี้แล้วไม่ทำงาน

2.อดทนต่อทุกขเวทนา เป็นการอดทนต่อการเจ็บไข้ได้ป่วย ความไม่สบายกายของตนเอง ความปวด ความเมื่อย ผู้ที่ขาดความอดทนประเภทนี้เวลาเจ็บป่วยจะร้องครวญคราง พร่ำเพ้อรำพัน หงุดหงิด ฉุนเฉียวง่าย ผู้รักษาพยาบาลทำอะไรไม่ทันใจหรือไม่ถูกใจ ก็โกรธง่าย พวกนี้จึงต้องป่วยเป็น 2 เท่า คือนอกจากจะป่วยกายที่เป็นอยู่แล้ว ยังต้องป่วยใจแถมเข้าไปด้วย ทำตัวเป็นที่เบื่อหน่ายแก่ชนทั้งหลาย
3.อดทนต่อความเจ็บใจ เป็นการอดทนต่อความโกรธ ความไม่พอใจ ความขัดใจ อันเกิดจากคำพูดที่ไม่ชอบใจ กิริยามารยาทที่ไม่งาม การบีบคั้นทั้งจากผู้บังคับบัญชา เพื่อนร่วมงานและลูกน้อง ความอยุติธรรมต่างๆ ในสังคม ระบบงานต่างๆ ที่ไม่คล่องตัว ฯลฯ
