นายสมบัติ เล่าถึงที่มาที่ไปของผลงานประดิษฐ์ชิ้นนี้ว่า เริ่มต้นจากการที่เขาเบื่อชีวิตราชการ ต้องการทำธุรกิจภาคการผลิตที่ยังไม่มีผู้ใดผลิตในประเทศไทย โดยต้องสามารถผลิตได้มาก ต้นทุนไม่สูง ใช้แรงงานไม่มาก มีประโยชน์ต่อสังคม ไม่ทำลายสิ่งแวดล้อม และสามารถดัดแปลงเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์ได้หลากหลาย จึงเลือกผลิตแผ่นเซลลูโลสจากเชื้อ A.xylinum ในน้ำสับปะรด ซึ่งเป็นวัตถุดิบหลักที่ปลูกใน อ.ป่าบอน จ.พัทลุง โดยสร้างห้องปฏิบัติการสำหรับพัฒนาผลิตภัณฑ์ อาศัยความรู้จากการสืบค้นห้องสมุด อินเทอร์เน็ต สอบถามผู้รู้ และได้ต่อยอดจากสิทธิบัตรของต่างประเทศ โดยดัดแปลงกรรมวิธีการผลิตให้สอดคล้องกับวัตถุดิบ โดยใช้ระยะเวลาในการประดิษฐ์ 18 เดือน(มี.ค.47-ปัจจุบัน)
