ชาวอุบลราชธานี ได้ทำต้นเทียนประกวดประชันความวิจิตรบรรจงกัน ตั้งแต่ พ.ศ.2470 จนเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2520 จังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ได้จัดงานสัปดาห์ประเพณีแห่เทียนพรรษา ให้เป็นงานประเพณีที่ยิ่งใหญ่และมโหฬาร สถานที่จัดงานคือ บริเวณทุ่งศรีเมือง มีการประกวดต้นเทียน 2 ประเภท คือ ประเภทติดพิมพ์ และประเภทแกะสลัก โดยขบวนแห่จากคุ้มวัดต่างๆ
