ประเภทของวิชาสถิติ แบ่งประเภทตามลักษณะของข้อมูลได้เป็นสองประเภทคือ
•สถิติเชิงอนุมาน(Inductive Statistics) หมายถึง สถิติที่ใช้จัดกระทำกับข้อมูลที่ได้มาเพียงบางส่วนของข้อมูลทั้งหมด
•สถิติเชิงบรรยาย(Descriptive Statistics) หมายถึง สถิติที่ใช้จัดกระทำกับข้อมูลที่ได้มาเฉพาะเรื่องใดเรื่องหนึ่ง

การนำเสนอข้อมูล หมายถึง การจัดระบบข้อมูลให้เป็นหมวดหมู่ เป็นประเภทตามลักษณะของการวิจัย เพื่อความชัดเจนในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลและการแปลความหมายของข้อมูล
