กำเนิดมวยสากล
มวยสากลเป็นศิลปะการต่อสู้ที่มีมาแต่โบราณ โดยเป็นการต่อสู้ด้วยมือเปล่าของทหารในสนามรบ และกลายเป้นเกมกีฬาในการแข่งขันโอลิมปิคยุคโบราณ โดยที่นักมวยในยุคนั้นไม่มีการจำกัดน้ำหนัก ไม่สวมเครื่องป้องกันตัว และไม่จำกัดว่าต้องใช้ได้เพียงหมัด สามารถกัดหรือถองคู่ต่อสู้ได้ โดยไม่มีกติกามากนัก เพียงแต่นักมวยทั้งคู่ต้องถอดเสื้อผ้าให้หมดทั้งตัว เพื่อไม่ให้ซ่อนอาวุธเอาไว้ จนกระทั่งในปี [[พ.ศ. 2236]] [[เจมส์ ฟิกซ์]] (James Figg) ผู้ชนะเลิศการต่อสู้ด้วยมือเปล่าชาว[[อังกฤษ]]ได้กำหนดกฎกติกาในการชก จนได้รับการเรียกขานว่าเป็น " บิดาแห่งมวยสากล " และต่อมาก็ได้มีผู้สร้าง[[นวม]]ขึ้นมา แต่ยังไม่มีการใช้ จนกระทั่งในปี [[พ.ศ. 2432]] [[จอห์น แอล ซัลลิแวน]] (John L. Sulrivan) ผู้ชนะเลิศการชิงแชมป์มวยด้วยมือเปล่า ประกาศว่าจะไม่ขอขึ้นชกด้วยมือเปล่าอีกต่อไป เป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการชกด้วยการสวมนวม และได้พัฒนาจนมาเป็นเกมกีฬาที่มีกติกาชัดเจนเช่นในปัจจุบัน

มวยสากลในประเทศไทย

มวยสากลหรือที่เรียกในยุคแรกว่า "มวยฝรั่ง" เข้าสู่ประเทศไทยครั้งแรกราว พ.ศ. 2455 โดยได้แบบอย่างจากประเทศอังกฤษ ผู้นำมาเผยแพร่คือหม่อมเจ้าวิบูลย์สวัสดิวงศ์ สวัสดิกุล ครั้งแรกนำมาเผยแพร่ที่โรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัย และแพร่ต่อไปยังโรงเรียนต่างๆ มีการจัดแข่งขันมวยนักเรียนซึ่งเป็นแบบมวยสากลสมัครเล่น
ต่อมา พระยาคฑาธรบดีสีหบาลเมือง เช่าพื้นที่ด้านศาลาแดงของสวนลุมพินีจัดให้มีการละเล่นต่างๆ เรียกว่าสวนสนุก มีการสั่งนักมวยสากลจากต่างชาติมาชกโชว์เรียกว่า "เต็ดโชว์" เมื่อเป็นที่นิยมจึงมีการคัดเลือกนักมวยสากลชาวไทยข้นชกกับนักมวยต่างชาติเหล่านั้นในแบบมวยสากลอาชีพ การชกระหว่างนักมวยสากลชาวไทยกับต่างชาติมีขึ้นครั้งแรกเมื่อ 7 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2472 ในวันนั้น สุวรรณ นิวาศวัต นักมวยไทยชื่อดังขึ้นชกเป็นคู่แรก แพ้น็อค เทอรี่ โอคัมโป (ฟิลิปปินส์) ยก 4 ส่วนคู่ที่ 2 โม่ สัมบุณณานนท์ ชนะน็อค ยีซิล โคโรนา (ฟิลิปปินส์) ยก 4จากนั้นกีฬามวยสากลเริ่มเป็นที่นิยมมากขึ้น มีนักมวยสากลชาวไทยชกชนะสร้างชื่อเสียงอยู่เนืองๆ เช่น สมพงษ์ เวชสิทธิ์ เป็นแชมป์มวยสากลของสิงคโปร์ ผล พระประแดงเป็นรองแชมป์โลกคนแรก จำเริญ ทรงกิตรัตน์ เป็นแชมป์ OPBF คนแรกและขึ้นชิงแชมป์โลกเป็นคนแรกด้วยแต่ไม่สำเร็จ แชมป์โลกชาวไทยคนแรกคือ โผน กิ่งเพชร ซึ่งได้ครองแชมป์เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2503 ปัจจุบัน (พ.ศ. 2550) ประเทศไทยมีแชมป์โลกทั้งสิ้น 37 คน ในจำนวนนี้มีนักมวยที่สร้างสถิติโลกและเอเชียมากมาย เช่น โผน กิ่งเพชร เป็นแชมป์โลกรุ่นฟลายเวท 3 สมัย คนแรก แสนศักดิ์ เมืองสุรินทร์ เป็นคนแรกที่ชกมวย 3 ครั้งแล้วได้เป็นแชมป์โลก
เขาทราย แกแล็คซี่ ป้องกันแชมป์โลกได้มากที่สุดในทวีปเอเชีย และเป็นสถิติโลกในรุ่น 115 ปอนด์

ข้อ 2 บรรดาระเบียบหรือข้อบังคับที่ขัดหรือแย้งกับระเบียบนี้ให้ใช้ระเบียบนี้แทน
ข้อ 3 ในระเบียบนี้ กา หนดแนวทางการจัดการแข่งขันตั้งแต่ ข้อ 4 เป็ นต้นไป

6.2 กติกาการแข่งขัน ให้กติกาการแข่งขัน มวยสากลสมัครเล่น ของสหพันธ์มวยสากล
สมัครเล่นนานาชาติ (IBA) ซึ่งสานักงานพัฒนาการกีฬาและนันทนาการและสมาคมมวยสากลสมัครเล่น
แห่งประเทศไทยใช้อยู่ในปัจจุบัน
ข้อ 7 คุณสมบัติของผู้เข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน
7.1 เป็นนักเรียน นักศึกษาระบบปกติ และระบบทวิภาคี ระดับ ปวช. ปวส. ปทส. และ
ปริญญาตรี สถานศึกษาสานักงานคณะกรรมการการอาชีวศึกษาและได้ลงทะเบียนเรียน มีผลการเรียน
ไม่น้อยกว่า 1 ภาคเรียน ยกเว้นการแข่งขันกีฬาในระดับจังหวัดและภาค
7.2 ต้องมีอายุตั้งแต่ 15 ปี ขึ้นไป และไม่เกิน 25 ปี (ใช้ พ.ศ. ปัจจุบันลบด้วย พ.ศ. เกิด)
ข้อ 8 ประเภทการแข่งขัน
การแข่งขันประเภทนี้ เรียกว่า “การแข่งขันมวยสากลสมัครเล่น กีฬาอาชีวะเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 8
พ.ศ.2554 ” จะทา การแข่งขัน ระหว่างวันที่ 20-26 สิงหาคม 2556 ณ จังหวัดชลบุรี
ประเภทบุคคลชาย กา หนดให้มีการแข่งขันมวยสากลสมัครเล่นชายแบ่งออกเป็น 8 รุ่น ดังนี้
รุ่น กติกาใหม่
8.1.1 รุ่นไลทฟ์ ลายเวท น้า หนักต้องเกิน 46 กก. แต่ไม่เกิน 49 กก.
8.1.2 รุ่นฟลายเวท น้า หนักต้องเกิน 49 กก. แต่ไม่เกิน 52 กก.
8.1.3 รุ่นแบนตั้มเวท น้า หนักต้องเกิน 52 กก. แต่ไม่เกิน 56 กก.
8.1.4 รุ่นไลทเ์ วท น้า หนักต้องเกิน 56 กก. แต่ไม่เกิน 60 กก.
8.1.5 รุ่นไลทเ์ วลเตอร์เวท น้า หนักต้องเกิน 60 กก. แต่ไม่เกิน 64 กก.
8.1.6 รุ่นเวลเตอร์เวท น้า หนักต้องเกิน 64 กก. แต่ไม่เกิน 69 กก.
