กัณหา เคียงศิริ เดิมชื่อ ชื้น วรรธนะภัฎ เขียนในแนวสัจนิยม ยึดถือความสมจริง มีผลงานเขียน 200 เรื่อง คือ นวนิยายเรื่องสั้น 100 เรื่อง นวนิยายเรื่องยาว 45 เรื่อง เรื่องแปล 1 เรื่อง บทละคร 3 เรื่อง บทร้อยกรอง 1 ชิ้น และสารคดีหลายเรื่อง
นอกจากเป็นนักเขียนนวนิยายแล้ว ก.สุรางคนางค์ยังเป็นนักเขียนคอลัมน์และนักไขปัญหา เคยเป็นบรรณาธิการหนังสือพิมพ์"เมืองทอง"รายวัน และผู้อำนวยการ"นารีนารถ"รายสัปดาห์ เจ้าของสำนักพิมพ์รสมาลิน ราชวิถี
ได้รับพระราชทานเครื่องราชอิสริยาภรณ์เบญจมาภรณ์มงกุฏไทย และเบญจมาภรณ์ช้างเผือก ใน ปี พ.ศ. 2495 และ 2497 ตามลำดับ และเคยเป็นกรรมการฝ่ายจรรยามารยาทของสภาวัฒธรรมแห่งชาติ

ประวัติ
ก.สุรางคนางค์ เกิด ณ คลองบางกอกใหญ่ ปากคลองนางลำเจียก จังหวัดนนทบุรี (ปัจจุบันเป็นเขตหนึ่งของกรุงเทพมหานคร) เป็นบุตรีของขุนตำรวจโทพระยาสุริยะภักดี (บุญช่วย วรรธนะภัฎ) ข้าราชการในสำนักตำรวจหลวง และนางสุริยะภักดี (หวั่น) เป็นบุตรคนแรกในจำนวน 3 คน น้องชายชื่อชาลี น้องสาวชื่อดารา ชื่อ "กัณหา" พระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฏเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าพระราชทานให้เมื่อวันที่ 24 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. 2462
ระหว่างอายุ 15-16 ปี เคยเข้าไปอยู่ในวังสวนสุนันทา ก.สุรางคนางค์ได้รับการศึกษาจากโรงเรียนเซนต์ฟรังซิสซาเวียร์คอนแวนต์ และสำเร็จระดับมัธยมปีที่ 8 จากโรงเรียนราชินีบน เคยเรียนภาษาอังกฤษกับแหม่ม และเรียนภาษาฝรั่งเศสกับพระเรี่ยมวิรัชพากย์ สำเร็จแล้วเป็นครูโรงเรียนราชินี สอนภาษาไทยประจำชั้น ม. 6 อยู่ 3 ปี และเคยถวายพระอักษรสมเด็จพระเจ้าภคินีเธอ เจ้าฟ้าเพชรรัตนราชสุดา สิริโสภาพัณณวดี
ก.สุรางคนางค์ ชอบการประพันธ์ตั้งแต่อยู่ ม.6 เขียนเรื่องสั้นเรื่องแรก ชื่อ "มาลินี" โดยใช้นามปากกาจากชื่อย่อตามด้วยคำประพันธ์ที่ชอบ เกิดเป็นนามปากกา "ก.สุรางคนางค์" ลงในเดลิเมล์วันจันทร์ นวนิยายเรื่องแรก คือ "กรองกาญจน์" โด่งดังในหมู่นักอ่านด้วยเรื่อง "หญิงคนชั่ว" ในปี พ.ศ. 2480 ช่วงระยะสงครามโลกครั้งที่สอง "บ้านทรายทอง"เป็นที่นิยม จนสร้างเป็นละครและภาพยนตร์ ตามมาด้วย "ดอกฟ้า" และ"โดมผู้จองหอง" จนกระทั่ง ถึง "เขมรินทร์-อินทิรา"
ก.สุรางคนางค์ สมรสกับ ป.บูรณปกรณ์ (ปกรณ์ บูรณปกรณ์ หรือนามเดิม ป่วน บูรณศิลปิน) เมื่อ 23 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2479 มีหม่อมเจ้าพิจิตรจิรภา เทวกุล ประทานงานสมรสให้ เนื่องจากบิดาไม่ยอมให้แต่งงานเพราะรังเกียจอาชีพนักเขียนไส้แห้งของป.บูรณปกรณ์ มีธิดาและบุตร 2 คน คือ นุปกรณ์ (ตุ๊ดตู่) และกิติปกรณ์ (ติ๊ดตี่) เมื่อ ป.บูรณปกรณ์ถึงแก่กรรม(พ.ศ. 2495)แล้ว ต่อมาจึงสมรสใหม่ กับเล็ก เคียงศิริ
ก.สุรางคนางค์ถึงแก่กรรมด้วยโรคชรา เมื่อเช้าวันที่ 23 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2542 ที่บ้านซอยอ่อนนุช
