โครงการนำนักเรียนเข้ามาเรียนรู้ในสวนสัตว์ มีวัตถุประสงค์ให้นักเรียนและเยาวชนมีความรู้และปลูกฝังทัศนคติที่ดี เรื่องสัตว์ป่า ธรรมชาติ และสิ่งแวดล้อมรวมทั้งพัฒนาสวนสัตว์ให้เป็นแหล่งเรียนรู้ ซึ่งนักเรียนที่เช้าร่วมโครงการจะได้รับการเรียนรู้เชิงอนุรักษ์ธรรมชาติวิทยา ผู้เรียนจะได้เรียนรู้จากประสบการณ์จริงและยังได้ส่งเสริมพัฒนาให้เกิดการใฝ่รู้อย่างต่อเนื่อง โดยมีผู้ให้ คำนิยามไว้ว่า นักเรียน คือ “เยาวชนผู้ใฝ่การเรียนการศึกษาหาความรู้” สวนสัตว์ คือ “แหล่งเรียนรู้ตลอดชีวิตต้นแบบ”
