ความเชื่อและความศรัทธา
ความเชื่อ ความเชื่อเป็นธรรมชาติที่เกิดขึ้นกับมนุษย์ และถือว่าเป็นวัฒนธรรมของมนุษย์อย่างหนึ่ง คำว่าความเชื่อมีความหมายอยู่หลายความหมาย นักวิชาการและผู้รู้ได้ให้ความหมายของความเชื่อไว้ในแง่มุมต่างๆ ดังนี้
ความเชื่อ คือ การยอมรับว่าสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่งเป็นความจริงหรือเป็นสิ่งที่เราไว้ใจ ความจริงหรือความไว้วางใจที่เป็นรูปของความเชื่อนั้น ไม่จำเป็นว่าจะต้องเป็นความจริงที่ตรงตามหลักเหตุผลหรือหลักวิทยาศาสตร์ใดๆ (กลุ่มวิทยาลัยครูภาคใต้, 2526 : 23)
ธวัช ปุณโณทก (2528) ได้กล่าวถึงความเชื่อไว้ว่า ความเชื่อ คือ การยอมรับอันเกิดอยู่ในจิตสำนึกของมนุษย์ต่อพลังอำนาจเหนือธรรมชาติ ที่เป็นผลดีหรือผลร้ายต่อมนุษย์นั้นๆ หรือสังคมมนุษย์นั้นๆ แม้ไม่สามารถที่จะพิสูจน์ได้ว่าเป็นความจริง แต่มนุษย์ในสังคมหนึ่งยอมรับและให้ความเคารพเกรงกลัวต่อสิ่งนั้นๆ (2528 : 350)
พจนานุกรมในไทยฉบับราชบัณฑิตยสถาน พ.ศ.2525(2525 : 278) กล่าวถึง ความเชื่อ ว่าหมายถึง เห็นตามด้วย มั่นใจ ไว้ใจ นับถือ และในลักษณะคล้ายกันนี้ มานิต มานิตเจริญ (2514 : 453) กล่าวว่าความเชื่อหมายถึง เห็นจริงด้วย วางใจ ไว้ใจ มั่นใจ และนับถือเช่นกัน
โรคีช(M. Rokeach) ได้อธิบายความหมายของความเชื่อว่า หมายถึง “ความคิดใดๆ ที่เป็นไปได้ หรือแน่ใจเกี่ยวกับการมีอยู่ การเป็นอยู่ ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่ควรทำหรือไม่ควรทำ ทั้งนี้เป็นปัจจัยที่ทำให้คนแสดงพฤติกรรมตามความเชื่อนั้น”
ทัศนีย์ ทานตวณิช (2523) กล่าวว่า “ความเชื่อคือการยอชมรับนับถือว่าเป็นความจริง หรือมีอยู่จริง การยอมรับหรือการยึดมั่นนี้ อาจมีหลักฐานเพียงพอที่จะพิสูจน์ได้ หรืออาจไม่มีหลักฐานที่จะพิสูจน์สิ่งนั้นให้เห็นจริงได้”
สุนทรี โคมิน (2539) กล่าวว่า “ความเชื่อเป็นความนึกคิดยึดถือ โดยที่เจ้าตัวจะรู้ตัวหรือไม่ก็ตาม เป็นสิ่งที่สามารถจะศึกษาและวัดได้จากคำพูดและการกระทำของคน”
สถาพร ศรสัจจัง (2533) ให้ความหมายของความเชื่อไว้ว่า “ความเชื่อหมายถึงการยอมรับข้อเสนออย่างใดอย่างหนึ่งว่าเป็นความจริง การยอมรับนี้อาจจะเกิดจากสติปัญญา เหตุผลหรือศรัทธา โดยไม่ต้องมีเหตุผลใดๆ รอบรับก็ได้”
จากที่กล่าวมาทั้งหมดจึงสรุปได้ว่า ความเชื่อ หมายถึง ความคิด ความเข้าใจและการยอมรับ นับถือ เชื่อมั่นในสิ่งหนึ่งสิ่งใดโดยไม่ต้องมีเหตุผลใดมาสนับสนุนหรือพิสูจน์ ทั้งนี้บางอย่างอาจมีหลักฐานอย่างเพียงพอที่จะพิสูจน์ได้ หรืออาจจะไม่มีหลักฐานที่จะนำมาใช้พิสูจน์ให้เห็นจริงเกี่ยวกับสิ่งนั้นก็ได้
ความศรัทธา หมายถึง ความเชื่อในสิ่งที่ควรเชื่อ ไม่งมงายไร้เหตุผล เป็นความเชื่อที่ประกอบด้วยปัญญา ศรัทธาที่มั่นคง หมายถึง ศรัทธาที่มีความรู้กำกับ ไม่หวั่นไหวเอนเอียงไปเพราะความไม่รู้ ความหลงงมงาย ซึ่งนักวิชาการและผู้รู้ได้ให้ความหมายของความเชื่อไว้ในแง่มุมต่างๆ ดังนี้
คณะกรรมการจัดทำพจนานุกรมศัพท์ศาสนาสากล แห่งราชบัณฑิตยสถาน 2536 ได้บัญญัติคำว่า ความศรัทธา หมายถึง ความเชื่อ ความเลื่อมใส โดยทั่ว ๆ ไปแบ่งได้เป็น 3 ประเภท คือ
1. ศรัทธาโดยไม่ต้องใช้ปัญญาแสวงหาความจริง 2. ศรัทธาโดยใช้ปัญญาแสวงหาความจริงไปพร้อม ๆ กัน 3. ศรัทธาต่อเมื่อมีประสบการณ์ด้วยตนเองจริง ๆ แล้ว
พจนานุกรมพุทธศาสตร์ ฉบับประมวลธรรม (2548) ได้บัญญัติคำว่า ความศรัทธา หมายถึง ความเชื่อที่ประกอบด้วยเหตุผล faith; belief; confidence, belief in the consequences of actions, belief in the individual ownership of action, and then knowledge that action is one's own possession
พระเทพคุณาภรณ์ เจ้าอาวาสวัดเทวราชกุญชร วรวิหาร กล่าวว่า ศรัทธาเป็นทรัพย์อันประเสริฐของมนุษย์ท่านจึงได้เรียกว่าพลัง ศรัทธา คือความเชื่อมั่นในใจของตนว่าทำสิ่งนี้ถูกต้องแล้ว ทำสิ่งนี้เป็นไปเพื่อประโยชน์อันยิ่งใหญ่ เป็นไปเพื่อความหลุดพ้น เป็นความเชื่อมั่นในใจของตนเรียก ศรัทธา (ธรรมลีลา, 2547)
