พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ บ้านเชียง เป็นพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ ประเภทแหล่งอนุสรณ์สถานจัดตั้งขึ้นในแหล่งโบราณคดีบ้านเชียง ตั้งอยู่ที่หมู่ที่ 13 ตำบล บ้านเชียง อำเภอหนองหาน จังหวัดอุดรธานี ปัจจุบันได้ยกฐานะเป็นเทศบาลตำบลแล้ว พิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งชาติ บ้านเชียงได้จัดแสดงหลักฐานที่ ได้จากการสำรวจขุด ค้น ที่บ้านเชียง และแหล่งโบราณคดีใกล้เคียง อันประกอบด้วยกลุ่มภาชนะดินเผา เครื่องมือ เครื่องใช้และสิ่งอื่นๆอีกมากมาย

จุดเริ่มต้นของการจัดตั้งพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ บ้านเชียง มาจากการพบภาชนะลายเขียนสี เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2503 โดยชาวบ้านเชียง ต่อมาปี พ.ศ. 2509 ชาวอเมริกัน ได้พบภาชนะดินเผาที่บ้านเชียงโดยบังเอิญจึงนำไปแจ้งที่กรมศิลปากร ปีพ.ศ. 2510 จึงได้มีการขุดค้นอย่างจริงจังเป็นครั้งแรกปี พ.ศ.2515 ได้ขุดค้นเป็นครั้งที่ 2 ในครั้งนี้พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวและสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าพระบรมราชินีนาถได้เสด็จทอดพระเนตรแหล่งขุดค้นที่วัดโพธิ์ศรีในพร้อมกับแหล่งอื่นในบ้านเชียง และครั้งสุดท้ายปีพ.ศ. 2517-2518 กรมศิลปากรร่วมกับมหาวิทยาลัยเพนซิลเวเนีย ได้ร่วมมือขุดค้นและหาข้อมูลใหม่เพิ่มเติม โดยเรียกโครงการนี้ว่า " โครงการ โบราณคดีภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ " พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติแห่งชาติ บ้านเชียง จึงได้เริ่มจัดตั้งขึ้นมาตั้งแต่ปีพ.ศ. 2518 เป็นต้นมา
