ในปี ๒๕๕๔ เศรษฐกิจอินโดนีเซียเติบโตร้อยละ ๖.๕ อัตราการขยายตัวของอุตสาหกรรมยานยนต์ในปี ๒๕๕๔ จึงขยายตัวเพิ่มขึ้นร้อยละ ๑๐.๗ เมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับพ.ศ. ๒๕๕๓ รัฐบาลมีนโยบายส่งเสริม ห้ามนำเข้ารถยนต์สำเร็จรูป ให้นำเข้าเพียงชิ้นส่วนยานยนต์ เพื่อนำมาประกอบในอินโดนีเซียเท่านั้น ปี ๒๐๑๐ ยังเติบโตขึ้นอย่างมาก โดยอาศัยปัจจัยบวก สนับสนุน คือ การขยายตัวของเศรษฐกิจภายในประเทศ อัตราดอกเบี้ยยังไม่สูงเกินไป อย่างไรก็ตาม รัฐบาลกำลังดำเนินมาตรการบาง ซึ่งจะเป็นอุปสรรคต่อการขยายตัวของอุตสาหกรรม เช่น การใช้อัตราภาษีก้าวหน้า อินโดนีเซียตั้งเป้าหมายที่จะแข่งขันกับไทย โดยมุ่งเป้าจะเป็นศูนย์กลางการผลิตรถยนต์ ในภูมิภาคแทนไทย แต่หากวิเคราะห์จะพบว่า การเพิ่มของอินโดนีเซียเป็นในลักษณะการเพิ่มยอดขายและการผลิตเพื่อสนองการบริโภคภายในประเทศเท่านั้น แต่ร้อยละ ๓๘ ของรถยนต์ที่ผลิตในไทยเป็นไปเพื่อการส่งออก
