นิทานพื้นบ้านไทยเรื่องดาวลูกไก่
ที่ชายป่าแห่งหนึ่งไม่ไกลจากเชิงเขา ตากับยายปลูกกระท่อมอาศัยอยู่กันตามลำพัง
มีอาชีพเก็บผักและของป่าไปขายให้พอเลี้ยงชีพได้
ตากับยายเลี้ยงไก่ตัวหนึ่งไว้กินไข่
ต่อมาแม่ไก่ออกไข่ แล้วฟักออกมาเป็นลูกไก่ตัวน้อยๆน่ารัก 7 ตัว



ตากับยายนั้น เลี้ยงดูและเมตตาให้อาหารกับแม่ไก่และลูกไก่ตามกำลัง
บางครั้งให้ข้าวเปลือก บางคราให้เป็นอาหาร
แม่ไก่บอกลูกไก่ทั้ง 7 ว่า “จำไว้นะลูกจ๋า ตากับยายเป็นผู้มีพระคุณ”
ส่วนตากับยายนั้น ก็เฝ้าดูแม่ไก่และลูกไก่น้อย…

เพื่อตอบแทนบุญคุณของตากับยาย แม่ไก่จึงบอกลูกว่า
“ลูกเอ๋ย วันรุ่งแม่ก็ต้องตายแล้ว แม่จะต้องตอบแทนบุญคุณตากับยาย
ที่ชุบเลี้ยงมาตั้งแต่ยังเป็นลูกเจี๊ยบ”
ลูกไก่ทั้ง 7 ได้ยินดังนั้น ก็ร้องไห้ซบอกแม่แน่นขึ้น
แม่ไก่ก็ร้องไห้สะอื้นสั่งเสียลูกต่อไปว่า
