นายชัยอนันต์ สมุทวณิช ประธานสถาบันนโยบายศึกษา กล่าวปฐกถาพิเศษ"ชัยอนันต์พูดวิกฤติประเทศไทย"ว่า ตลอดระยะเวลาหลายสิบปีที่เรามีการเรียกร้องทางการเมืองให้ดีขึ้นนั้น ในครั้งนี้ต่างจากครั้งก่อนๆมาที่จะเป็นการประท้วงในเรื่องรัฐธรรมนูญหรือเผด็จการทหาร ทั้งๆที่ในครั้งนี้เรามีรัฐธรรมนูญและระบบรัฐสภาอยู่แล้ว แต่ที่คาดไม่ถึงคือการประท้วงในครั้งนี้มีคนออกมาประท้วงรัฐบาลมากมายและไม่ได้เป็นไปในเชิงปริมาณเพียงอย่างเดียวมีผู้คนที่เข้ามาชุมนุมมีทั้งหลากหลายวิชาชีพ แต่ออกมาชุมนุมไม่ได้เป็นเพราะระบบ แต่ออกมาเนื่องจาก ส.ส.ซึ่งเป็นตัวแทนประชาชนนั้นออกกฏหมายที่กระทบและขัดต่อความรู้สึกของประชาชน จึงถือเป็นวิกฤติทางการเมืองและระบอบประชาธิปไตย ซึ่งถือเป็นเรื่องร้ายแรงมาก
