ตอนประถมศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 3 หรือปีที่ 4 ฉันมีโอกาสได้ไปเที่ยวทะเลบางแสนที่พัทยา ตอนนั้นตื่นเต้นดีใจมากที่จะได้ไปทะเล รีบตื่นเตรียมตัวแต่เช้าเก็บข้าวเก็บของรอประมาณว่าบ้าเหอพอถึงบางแสน พ่อก็พาฉันมาเล่นน้ำตรงตื่นๆ นั่งเก็บเปลือกหอย หาปู อยู่ที่หาดเนื่องจากฉันว่ายน้ำไม่เป็น (ตอนนี้ก็ยังไม่เป็น) นั่งเล่นเพลินๆอยู่ดีๆ พอมองมาขึ้นบนฝั่งอีกที ก็มองไม่เห็นหน้าแม่เสียแล้ว จากเดิมที่เห็นแม่นั่งคุยกันกับเพื่อนพ่ออยู่บนฝั่งที่เต้นท์ร่มสีแดง พอฉันเผลอเดินก้มๆ เงยๆ มองหาปูไป มองหาปูมาแหย่รูนั้นที...รูนี้ที มองหาอีกทีก็ไม่เจอใครแล้ว ไม่รู้ว่าอยู่กันตรงไหน คนก็เยอะมากบนฝั่งฉันเห็นแต่เต้นท์ร่มสีแดง สีเหลือง สีเขียว เต็มไปหมด ฉันเริ่มกลัวและหมดสนุกไปแล้ว ฉันเริ่มเดินไล่เลาะขึ้นไปตามชายหาดเรื่อยๆ ตะโกนเรียกพ่อ เรียกแม่ก็ไม่มีเสียงใครตอบสักคน จนสักพักฉันเริ่มร้องไห้เสียงดัง ก็มีใครบางคนเดินเข้ามาถาม เขาถามว่า “ บ้านอยู่ไหน พ่อชื่ออะไร แม่ชื่ออะไร ” ฉันก็ตอบไม่ได้สักอย่าง ไม่ว่าใครจะถามอะไร ฉันตอบเพียงอย่างเดียวว่า “ ปากเกร็ด ”ตอนนั้นฉันโง่จำอะไรไม่ได้ซักอย่างนอกจากปากเกร็ด จนในที่สุดก็มีชายใจดีพาฉันเดินไปส่งที่ป้อมตำรวจเพื่อประกาศเด็กหาย ประกาศอยู่นานจนเกือบหกโมงเย็นได้ พ่อก็เดินไล่หาฉันมาเรื่อย จนมาเจอฉันอยู่ที่ป้อมตำรวจนั่นเอง
