*หมายเหตุ ภายหลังการประชุมรัฐสภาเมียนมาร์เป็นครั้งแรกเมื่อวันที่ ๓๑ มกราคม ๒๕๕๔ เมียนมาร์ได้เปลี่ยนชื่อประเทศเป็น “สาธารณรัฐแห่งสหภาพเมียนมาร์” (เดิมคือ The Union of Myanmar เปลี่ยนเป็น The Republic of the Union of Myanmar) ปัจจุบันมีรูปแบบการปกครองแบบสาธารณรัฐ มีรัฐสภาซึ่งประกอบด้วยสภาประชาชน สภาชาติพันธุ์ และสภาท้องถิ่น โดยมีนายเต็ง เส่ง ดำรงตำแหน่งประธาธิบดี ซึ่งเป็นประมุขและหัวหน้ารัฐบาล ตั้งแต่วันที่ ๓๐ มีนาคม ๒๕๕๔

๑. ภาพรวมความสัมพันธ์
๑.๑ ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างไทยกับเมียนมาร์ดีขึ้นเป็นลำดับ และมีการแลกเปลี่ยนการเยือนและการหารือระดับสูงระหว่างสองประเทศอย่างต่อเนื่อง โดยนายกรัฐมนตรีเดินทางเยือนเมียนมาร์แล้ว ๒ ครั้ง คือ การเดินทางเยือนในโอกาสรับตำแหน่งใหม่ เมื่อวันที่ ๕ ต.ค. ๒๕๕๔ และการเข้าร่วมการประชุมผู้นำ ๖ ประเทศลุ่มแม่น้ำโขง (GMS) ครั้งที่ ๔ เมื่อวันที่ ๑๙ - ๒๐ ธ.ค. ๒๕๕๔ โดยในครั้งหลังนี้ นายกรัฐมนตรีได้พบหารือกับประธานาธิบดีเมียนมาร์ ที่เนปิดอว์ และนางออง ซาน ซู จี ที่กรุงย่างกุ้งด้วย
๑.๒ หน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องสองฝ่ายมีความร่วมมือทวิภาคีที่คืบหน้าในด้านต่างๆอย่างต่อเนื่อง ทั้งด้านการปราบปรามยาเสพติด การป้องกันและปราบปรามการค้ามนุษย์ การแก้ไขปัญหาแรงงานผิดกฎหมาย การส่งเสริมการค้าและการลงทุน และล่าสุด รัฐบาลเมียนมาร์ได้เปิดจุดผ่านแดนถาวรเมียวดีตรงข้าม อ.แม่สอด จ.ตาก เมื่อวันที่ ๕ ธ.ค. ๒๕๕๔ (ภายหลังจากที่ปิดมาตั้งแต่วันที่ ๑๘ ก.ค. ๒๕๕๓) และปล่อยตัวนักโทษชาวไทย ๘ คน เพื่อเฉลิมพระเกียรติ เนื่องในวโรกาสวันเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษาพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวครบ ๗ รอบ และเป็นการแสดงไมตรีจิตในความสัมพันธ์อันดีกับไทย
๑.๓ ไทยกับเมียนมาร์มีความร่วมมือภายใต้กลไกทวิภาคีที่สำคัญ คือ (๑) คณะกรรมาธิการร่วม (Thailand – Myanmar Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation - JC) (๒) คณะกรรมการชายแดนส่วนภูมิภาค (Regional Border Committee - RBC) (๓) คณะกรรมการเขตแดนร่วม (Joint Boundary Committee - JBC) รวมทั้งคณะกรรมการด้านเทคนิคว่าด้วยแม่น้ำที่เป็นเขตแดน และ (๔) คณะกรรมาธิการร่วมด้านการค้า (Joint Trade Commission - JTC)
