ความหมายของประวัติศาสตร์

ประวัติศาสตร์เกิดจากความมีสามัญสำนึกของมนุษย์อันเป็นคุณลักษณะที่ทำให้มนุษย์แตกต่างจากสัตว์อื่น
มนุษย์ผูกพันกับประวัติศาสตร์อย่างใกล้ชิด จนไม่อาจจะแยกจากกันได้นั้น คือจะพยายามเรียนรู้และเข้าใจตนเอง
โดยมีประวัติศาสตร์เป็นเครื่องนำทางมุ่งศึกษาพฤติกรรมมนุษย์แล้วให้ความ สำคัญแก่ช่วงเวลาที่เกิดเหตุการณ์หรือพฤติกรรมนั้นๆ มาก
คนทั่วไปมักจะมีความเข้าใจว่าประวัติศาสตร์คือ “อดีต” หรือ “ส่วนหนึ่งของอดีต” แต่ในความเป็นจริงนั้น “อดีต”
