หอดูดาวเฉลิมพระเกียรติ 7 รอบพระชนมพรรษา ตั้งอยู่สถานีทวนสัญญาณทีโอที บริเวณยอดดอยอินทนนท์ ที่ระดับความสูง 2,478 เมตรเหนือระดับน้ำทะเลปานกลาง ถูกสร้างขึ้นเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2555 โดยมีการสร้างถนนสายเล็กๆแยกจากถนนสายหลักขึ้นไปยังบริเวณหอดูดาวฯ เพื่อให้นักท่องเที่ยวและผู้ที่สนใจจะศึกษาเกี่ยวกับทางด้านดาราศาสตร์ได้เดินทางสะดวกยิ่งขึ้น จากการสำรวจ บริเวณสองข้างทางของถนนสายเล็ก พบสังคมของสิ่งมีชีวิตขนาดเล็ก และไลเคนที่เจริญเติบโตอยู่บริเวณพื้นดินเป็นจำนวนมาก ซึ่งไลเคนเป็นสิ่งมีชีวิตที่เจริญเติบโตอยู่ในภูมิอากาศที่จำเพาะ เช่น มีแสงที่เพียงพอ และ ความชื้นสูง ดังนั้นเมื่อมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงพื้นที่ เช่น การเกิดสิ่งก่อสร้าง ที่ทำให้บริเวณพื้นที่ใหญ่ถูกตัดหรือแบ่งแยกออกเป็นพื้นที่เล็กๆ โดยอาจจะส่งผลให้สิ่งมีชีวิตดังกล่าวได้รับผลกระทบหรือได้รับความเสียหายเป็นอับดับแรกๆ นอกจากนี้การเปลี่ยนแปลงตามฤดูกาลยังสามารถส่งผลต่อสิ่งมีชีวิตนี้ได้เช่นกัน
