บทความฉบับนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อแนะนำหนังสือ “การสร้างสรรค์ชาติพันธุ์วิทยาทัศนา” เขียนขึ้นโดย ซาร่าห์ พิงค์ ผู้เป็นศาสตราจารย์ด้านการออกแบบและสื่อชาติพันธุ์วรรณนาที่สถาบันเทคโนโลยีรอยัลเมลเบิร์น (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) ในประเทศออสเตรเลียและเป็นศาสตราจารย์ด้านสังคมประยุกต์และการวิเคราะห์วัฒนธรรมที่มหาวิทยาลัยฮาล์มสตัดในประเทศสวีเดน ภาพรวมของหนังสือเล่มนี้นำเสนอ ประวัติความเป็นมาของชาติพันธุ์วิทยา ทฤษฎี และจริยธรรมในการศึกษา การสร้างองค์ความรู้เชิงชาติพันธุ์วิทยา และ วิธีการนำเสนอการศึกษาเชิงชาติพันธุ์วิทยา ซึ่งการศึกษาเชิงชาติพันธุ์วิทยาเป็นเส้นทางการวิจัยสู่สังคมที่มีความซับซ้อนและไม่สามารถดำเนินการได้สำเร็จภายใน 1 วัน (Fetterman, 2010) ดังนั้นเพื่อให้ได้รับผลวิจัยที่มีคุณภาพและสามารถสะท้อนวัฒนธรรม รูปแบบพฤติกรรม และความจริงของกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ผู้วิจัยควรมีความรู้พื้นฐานเกี่ยวกับวิธีเก็บข้อมูลด้วยวิธีต่าง ๆ อย่างถ่องแท้เพื่อจะได้สามารถเลือกวิธีเก็บข้อมูลที่มีความเหมาะสมกับเหตุการณ์ หนังสือเล่มนี้จึงมีประโยชน์สำหรับนักศึกษาและนักวิจัยที่สนใจศึกษาเชิงชาติพันธุ์วิทยาเพื่อเป็นแนวทางในการเตรียมความพร้อมและเลือกรูปแบบการเก็บข้อมูลเพื่อให้ได้รับข้อมูลที่สามารถตอบคำถามงานวิจัยและสร้างองค์ความรู้ได้อย่างน่าเชื่อถือ
