In this work the optimization clearly showed, that a mild pretreatment with 0.05 M sulfuric acid at a ratio of 10:1, which equals 0.25 wt% sulfuric acid for BSG pretreatment and 0.16 wt% sulfuric acid for WB pretreatment, during sterilization at 121 C for 20 min at 1 bar excess pressure allowed similar productivities compared to stronger pretreatment although the released amount of monosaccharides was dramatically reduced.
