โครงการวิจัยฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาสถานภาพการผลิต การตลาด ต้นทุนและผลตอบแทนจากการเลี้ยงสุกร ความเชื่อมโยงของห่วงโซ่อุปทาน รวมถึงความต้องการและแนวทางการจัดการห่วงโซ่อุปทานของการเลี้ยงสุกรในอนาคต ทำการรวบรวมข้อมูลโดยการใช้แบบสอบถามกับเกษตรกรผู้เลี้ยงสุกร ผู้รับซื้อ และผู้บริโภค มีผลการศึกษาโดยสรุปดังนี้ เกษตรกรผู้เลี้ยงสุกรส่วนใหญ่เป็นเพศชาย การศึกษาระดับประถมศึกษา ประกอบอาชีพเลี้ยงสุกรเป็นอาชีพหลัก ลักษณะการประกอบธุรกิจของเกษตรกรส่วนใหญ่เป็นแบบธุรกิจส่วนตัว ประเภทของฟาร์มเป็นฟาร์มแบบเปิด มีประสบการณ์เลี้ยงสุกรไม่เกิน 10 ปี มีจำนวนบุคลากรในการผลิตไม่เกิน 20 คน สุกรที่เลี้ยงส่วนใหญ่เป็นสุกรขุน ต้นทุนการเลี้ยงสุกรขุนเฉลี่ยต่อตัวเท่ากับ 7,153.2 บาท มีผลตอบแทนรวมต่อตัวเท่ากับ 646.8 บาท ต้นทุนการเลี้ยงลูกสุกรพันธุ์เฉลี่ยต่อตัวเท่ากับ 1,895.35 บาท มีผลตอบแทนรวมต่อตัวเท่ากับ 534.05 บาท ผู้บริโภคนิยมบริโภคเนื้อสุกรมากกว่า 1 ครั้ง/สัปดาห์ นิยมซื้อเนื้อสุกรจากแผงขายปลีกในตลาดสด ผู้บริโภคส่วนใหญ่มีความคิดเห็นว่าราคาเนื้อสุกรในปัจจุบันมีราคาสูงเกินไป ผลจากการสัมภาษณ์ผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องในกระบวนการการเลี้ยงสุกรพบว่า โครงสร้างห่วงโซ่อุปทานของสุกรในอำเภอบางคล้า จังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา ประกอบด้วยผู้จัดหาวัตถุดิบ ผู้ผลิต และลูกค้า ซึ่งได้แก่ พ่อค้าส่ง โรงฆ่าสัตว์ โรงแปรรูป และผู้รับซื้อรายย่อยในท้องถิ่น ผลการสนทนากลุ่มระหว่างผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องในโซ่อุปทานได้เสนอแนวทางในการพัฒนาโซ่อุปทานของสุกร ดังนี้ (1) ส่งเสริมและพัฒนาคุณภาพของลูกสุกรพันธุ์ (2) ควรจัดทำระบบการจัดการความรู้ด้านการเลี้ยงสุกรเพื่อให้เกษตรกรได้รับความรู้และแลกเปลี่ยนประสบการณ์ รวมทั้งการนำไปประยุกต์ใช้ได้ (3) การส่งเสริมอย่างจริงจังจากหน่วยงานภาครัฐ (4) ผู้รับซื้อในท้องถิ่นควรขยายการตลาดให้กว้างยิ่งขึ้น (5) จัดหาแหล่งเงินทุนสำหรับเกษตรกรผู้เลี้ยงสุกร (6) พัฒนาเทคโนโลยีการเลี้ยง (7) สร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มและพัฒนาผลิตภัณฑ์ให้สอดคล้องกับความต้องการของตลาด
