ครอบคลุมพื้นที่อำเภอบ้านตาขุน อำเภอพนม และอำเภอคีรีรัฐนิยม มีพื้นที่ 461,712 ไร่ ประกาศเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติ เมื่อวันที่ 2 สิงหาคม 2537 สภาพโดยทั่วไปเป็นภูเขาดิน และภูเขาหินปูนสูงสลับซับซ้อน มีแนวหน้าผาสูงชัน ด้านทิศเหนือเป็นแหล่งน้ำขนาดใหญ่ เกิดจากการก่อสร้างเขื่อนรัชชประภา มีป่าไม้และสัตว์ป่าอุดมสมบูรณ์ พันธุ์ไม้หายากที่พบในเขตอุทยานฯ ได้แก่ ปาล์มหลังขาว และ บัวผุด เป็นดอกไม้ขนาดใหญ่ มีเส้นผ่าศูนย์กลางดอกประมาณ 10-25 นิ้ว ขึ้นอยู่บนพื้นดิน จะบานในช่วงเดือนพฤศจิกายน ถึง มกราคม ส่วนสัตว์หายากที่น่าสนใจ ได้แก่ กบทูด และปลามังกร ช่วงเวลาที่เหมาะจะเดินทางมาท่องเที่ยวคือ เดือนธันวาคมถึงเดือนเมษายน นอกจากนั้นอุทยานฯ ยังมีกิจกรรมที่น่าสนใจ คือ การล่องแก่ง เดินป่า นั่งช้าง ดูนก และเดินศึกษาเส้นทางธรรมชาติ

อุทยานฯ มีแหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่น่าสนใจ ได้แก่
- วังยาว น้ำตกบางหัวแรด และน้ำตกวิ่งหิน น้ำตกบางหัวแรด เป็นน้ำตกสองชั้นที่สวยงามแต่ไม่สูงมาก ชั้นแรกไหลจากบางหัวแรดลงสู่คลองสก ชั้นที่สองอยู่ในคลองสก มีน้ำไหลตลอดปี ห่างลงมาประมาณ 120 เมตร มีน้ำตกวิ่งหินไหลลงมาบรรจบเหนือขึ้นไป 40 เมตร มีวังสำหรับเล่นน้ำ เรียกว่า “วังยาว” อยู่ห่างจากที่ทำการอุทยานฯ 3 กิโลเมตร

- น้ำตกโตนกลอย เกิดจากคลองสก เป็นน้ำตกชั้นเดียว มีลานหินสำหรับพักผ่อนบนชั้นน้ำตก อยู่ห่างจากที่ทำการอุทยานฯ ประมาณ 9 กิโลเมตร
- น้ำตกโตนไทร เป็นน้ำตกที่ไม่สูงนัก อยู่ในลำคลองสก ห่างจากที่ทำการอุทยานฯ ประมาณ 11 กิโลเมตร ห่างจากน้ำตกโตนกลอย ประมาณ 2 กิโลเมตร
น้ำตกธารสวรรค์ ไหลลงมาจากหน้าผาชัน พุ่งโค้งแบบรุ้งกินน้ำ ไหลลงสู่คลองสก อยู่ห่างจากที่ทำการอุทยานฯ ประมาณ 9 กิโลเมตร ห่างจากตั้งน้ำประมาณ 3กิโลเมตร
น้ำตกสิบเอ็ดชั้น อยู่ห่างจากที่ทำการฯ 4 กิโลเมตร เป็นน้ำตกที่ไหลลงมาเป็นชั้นๆ ลดหลั่นกันมาตามร่องหน้าผาเป็นรูปขั้นบันได 11 ขั้น ชั้นล่างสุดของน้ำตกจะมีแอ่งน้ำสำหรับลงเล่นน้ำได้ ต้องเดินทางโดยทางเท้า
น้ำตกแม่ยาย อยู่ห่างจากที่ทำการอุทยานฯ 4.5 กิโลเมตร เป็นน้ำตกชั้นเดียวสูงประมาณ 30 เมตร รถยนต์สามารถไปถึงได้ ตั้งอยู่ริมถนนสายสุราษฎร์ธานี-ตะกั่วป่า บริเวณกิโลเมตรที่ 113

อุทยานฯ มีเส้นทางเดินศึกษาธรรมชาติ 3 เส้นทาง คือ
- เส้นทางที่ 1 น้ำตกบางหัวแรด-น้ำตกโตนกลอย เริ่มเดินจากที่ทำการอุทยานฯ ข้ามคลองบางเลน ไป น้ำตกบางหัวแรด ซึ่งอยู่ห่างจากที่ทำการอุทยานฯ 3 กิโลเมตร เป็นน้ำตก 2 ชั้น ไม่สูงมากนัก เดินเลียบคลองสก ผ่าน น้ำตกวิ่งหิน อยู่ห่างไป 120 เมตร มีความสูงประมาณ 20 เมตร ไหลสู่คลองสก เดินทางต่อไปตามเส้นทางเดินเท้าเลียบคลองสกผ่าน วังยาว ห่างประมาณ 40 เมตร เป็นวังน้ำลึก เดินเท้าขึ้นภูเขาเตี้ย ๆ ข้ามคลองสก มีทางแยกซ้ายเข้าไปประมาณ 5 กิโลเมตร จะพบ น้ำตกธารสวรรค์ เป็นน้ำตกที่ไหลสู่คลองสก มีลักษณะเป็นแนวโค้งคล้ายแนวรุ้งกินน้ำ จากนั้นเดินเลียบคลองสกไปอีก 2 กิโลเมตร จะถึง ตั้งน้ำ หรือต้นน้ำ เป็นภูเขาซึ่งถูกน้ำเซาะจนกลายเป็นหน้าผาหันหน้าเข้าหากัน มีลำคลองสกลอดผ่าน เบื้องล่างเป็นวังน้ำลึก ซึ่งเป็นสถานที่ลอยเถ้าอังคาร (เถ้ากระดูก) ของท่านพุทธทาส จากตั้งน้ำเดินเท้าปีนเขา ประมาณ 3 กิโลเมตร ถึง น้ำตกโตนกลอย เป็นน้ำตกชั้นเดียว เกิดจากลำคลองสก มีน้ำไหลแรงตลอดปี ตลอดเส้นทางมีความยาว 9 กิโลเมตร นักท่องเที่ยวสามารถเดินได้เอง เส้นทางเดินไม่ลำบาก
