ต่อมาในปลายศตวรรษที่ 19 ชาวอังกฤษเริ่มผสมพันธุ์แมวเตอร์กิส แองโกร่า กับแมวสายพันธุ์อื่น และพัฒนาจนได้แมวที่มีขนหนาและยาวกว่าเดิม กระทั่งในที่สุดแมวพันธุ์นี้ก็ได้รับการยอมรับและจดทะเบียนขึ้นที่ประเทศอังกฤษในชื่อว่า Longhair ซึ่งชื่อของมันก็ถูกตั้งขึ้นตามประเทศต้นกำเนิดนั่นเอง

นอกจากประเทศอังกฤษแล้ว แมวเปอร์เซียยังถูกนำไปเลี้ยงในประเทศต่างๆ ทั้งยุโรปและอเมริกามานานหลายร้อยปี ซึ่งอเมริกาจะเรียกแมวพันธุ์นี้ว่า Persian
