ประเพณีสงกรานต์พระประแดง
ประวัติ / ความเป็นมา
          อำเภอพระประแดง เดิมเป็นเมืองชื่อ เมืองนครเขื่อนขันธ์ เป็นเมืองหน้าด่านของปากแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา สร้างโดยพระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธเลิศหล้านภาลัย รัชกาลที่ 2 เพื่อป้องกับการรุกรานของข้าศึกที่ยกมาทางทะเล ชาวพื้นเมืองเดิมของเมืองนครเขื่อนขันธ์หรือพระประแดง เป็นชาวรามัญหรือมอญที่อพยพเข้ามาพึ่งพระบรมโพธิสมภารในแผ่นดินไทยเป็นเวลากว่าร้อยปีมาแล้ว
          สันนิฐานว่า ชาวรามัญเริ่มอพยพเข้าสู่ประเทศไทยหลังจากสมเด็จพระนเรศวรมหาราชประกาศอิสรภาพ เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2127 ในสมัยสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราช พ.ศ. 2318 ปรากฏว่ามีชาวมอญอพยพเข้ามาราวหมื่นคนทางด้านจังหวัดกาญจนบุรี สมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราชได้พระราชทานที่ดินให้ตั้งบ้านเรือนอยู่ที่เมืองนนทบุรี ตั้งแต่ปากเกร็ดถึงปุทมธานี ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 2 แห่งกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์มีพวกมอญอพยพเข้ามาพึ่งพระบรมโพธิสมภารอีกเป็นจำนวนมาก เมื่อพระองค์ได้ทรงสร้างเมืองนครเขื่อนขันธ์ แล้ว จึงโปรดให้อพยพครอบครัวมอญจากเมืองปทุมธานี โดยมีพระยาเจ่งเป็นหัวหน้าไปอยู่ที่เมืองนครเขื่อนขันธ์ ต่อมาโปรดให้สมิงทอบุตรชายพระยาเจ่ง เป็นเจ้าเมืองเขื่อนขันธ์ หรือเมืองพระประแดง
กล่าวได้ว่า ประเพณีและวัฒนธรรมมอญ จึงฝังรากแน่นแฟ้นในเมืองพระประแดงถึงแม้ว่าปัจจุบันนี้ได้กลายเป็นคนไทย แต่ยังรักษาประเพณีเดิมไว้เป็นอย่างดี
          ทางจังหวัดสมุทรปราการและชาวอำเภอพระประแดง จึงได้ร่วมกันจัดงานสงกรานต์พระประแดงขึ้น เพื่อเป็นการต้อนรับปีใหม่ของไทย และเพื่ออนุรักษ์ประเพณีของชาวรามัญเอาไว้ เช่น ประเพณีการปล่อยนกปล่อยปลา การเล่นสะบ้า โดยจัดร่วมกับงานสงกรานต์ทุกปี

กำหนดงาน
          หลังช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์ ประมาณ 1 อาทิตย์ ณ อำเภอพระประแดง

กิจกรรม / พิธี
          เริ่มขึ้นก่อนวันสงกรานต์จะมาถึง โดยชาวบ้านจะเตรียมบ้านเรือนให้สะอาด นำเงินที่เก็บหอมรอมริบไว้มาใช้จ่ายเพื่อการรื่นเริงในวันสงกรานต์ มีการกวนกาละแม ข้าวเหนียวแดง เพื่อทำบุญตักบาตรหรือแจกจ่ายญาติพี่น้อง ผู้ที่คุ้นเคยและเคารพนับถือ การกวนกาละแมเป็นเรื่องความสนุกสนานของหนุ่มๆ สาวๆ โดยบ้านใดกวนกาละแมก็จะไปบอกเพื่อบ้านใกล้เคียงให้มาช่วยกัน เพราะกาละแมกระทะหนึ่งต้องใช้เวลากวนถึง 6 ชั่วโมง จึงได้ที่โดยใน 1 วัน จะกวนได้ 2 กระทะเท่านั้น หนุ่มๆ ทำหน้าที่กวน และการกวนกาละแมจะหยุดไม่ได้ เพราะจะทำให้ไหม้ จึงต้องกวนอยู่ตลอดเวลา นอกจากนั้นยังมีการเลี้ยงสุราอาหารและคุยกันระหว่างหนุ่มๆ สาวๆ 

          เมื่อถึงวันสงกรานต์ มีการส่งข้าวสงกรานต์ หรือที่เรียกว่า “ข้าวแช่” ข้าวที่หุงเป็นข้าวสงกรานต์นั้นต้องใช้ข้าวเปลือก 7 กำใหญ่ ตำเป็นข้าวสาร ฝัดรำทิ้ง 7 หน เมื่อเวลาจะหุงข้าวต้องซาวน้ำล้าง 7 ครั้งครั้นเป็นข้าวสวยแล้วต้องนำมาล้างอีก 7 หน จึงนำไปแช่น้ำสะอาดอบร่ำด้วยดอกมะลิ ในภาชนะที่ทำด้วยดิน เช่น อ่างดิน หรือหม้อดินเพื่อให้เย็น ถือว่าอยู่เย็นเป็นสุข กับข้าวที่จะรับประทานกับข้าวสงกรานต์ต้องทำจากพืช เช่น ถั่ว งา และผักต่างๆ ไม่นิยมทำจากเนื้อสัตว์ โดยนำข้าวสงกรานต์ไปถวายพระที่ในวัดตอนเช้าตรู่ระหว่างเวลา 6.00 – 8.00 น. ผู้ส่งนิยมใช้สาวๆ แต่ต้องนำข้าวสงกรานต์หรือข้าวแช่และกับข้าวที่เตรียมไว้บูชาท้าวมหาสงกรานต์เสียก่อน ที่สำหรับบูชาท้าวมหาสงกรานต์ปลูกเป็นศาลเพียงตา มีเสาสี่ต้นตกแต่งด้วยทางมะพร้าวและใบมะพร้าว ประดับธงเล็กๆ สีขาว เหลือง แดง เขียว ฯลฯ ศาลเป็นรูปสี่เหลี่ยมจัตุรัศมีพื้นที่สำหรับวางเครื่องบูชา
