บทคัดย่อ
การศึกษาครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาสาเหตุที่ ต้นราชพฤกษ์ถึงได้เป็นต้นไม้ประจำชาติ
การศึกษาค้นคว้าเรื่อง ต้นราชพฤกษ์ถึงเป็นต้นไม้ประจำชาติ มีขอบเขตศึกษาคือเหตุผลการเลือกต้นต้นราช
พฤกษ์ถึงได้เป็นต้นไม้ประจำชาติ ประวัติต้นราชพฤกษ์
โดยค้นคว้าจากแหล่งข้อมูลอินเตอร์เน็ต ซึ่งคณะผู้จัดทำการศึกษาข้อมูล รวบรวม คัดกรองความน่าเชื่อถือของแหล่งข้อมูล แล้วนำมาเรียงผล
การศึกษาค้นคว้า ซึ้งผลการศึกษา พบว่า ผลการศึกษาค้นคว้า คณะรัฐมนตรีได้เห็นชอบและออกประกาศสำนักนายกรัฐมนตรี เรื่อง การกำหนดสัญลักษณ์ประจำชาติไทย 3 สิ่ง ลงนามโดยพันตำรวจโททักษิณ ชินวัตร นายกรัฐมนตรี เมื่อวันที่ 26 ตุลาคม พ.ศ.2544คือ
1. สัตว์ประจำชาติไทย คือ ช้างไทย Chang Thai (Elephant : Elephas maximus)
2. ดอกไม้ ประจำชาติ คือ ดอกราชพฤกษ์ (คูน) Rachaphruek ( Cassia fistula Linn.)
3. สถาปัตยกรรมประจำชาติ คือ ศาลาไทย Sala Thai (Pavillon)

ความสำคัญและเป็นมาของปัญหา
ต้นราชพฤกษ์เป็นต้นไม้ประจำชาติ ต้นราชพฤกษ์มีความเกี่ยวข้องกับประเพณีชาวไทยมาอย่างช้านาน เพราะเป็นไม้มงคลนามและใช้ในการประอบพิธีสำคัญๆ ต่างๆ หลายพิธีเช่น พิธีลงเสาหลักเมือง ทำคฑาจอมพล ใช้ทำยอดธงชัยเฉลิมพลต้นราชพฤกษ์เป็นสัญลักษณ์ที่แสดงถึงความเป็นใหญ่ ความมีอำนาจวาสนา มีโชคมีชัยคนไทยในสมัยโบราณยังมีความเชื่อว่าบ้านใดปลูกต้นราชพฤกษ์ไว้ประจำบ้านจะช่วยให้มีเกียรติมีศักดิ์ศรี ด้วยคนไทยส่วนใหญ่ยอมรับว่าต้นราชพฤกษ์เป็นต้นไม้ที่มีคุณค่าสูงและยังเป็นสัญลักษณ์ประจำชาติไทยอีกด้วย นอกจากนี้มีความเชื่อว่า ใบของต้นราชพฤกษ์เป็นสิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์เพราะในพิธีทางไสยศาสตร์ให้ใบทำน้ำพุทธมนต์สะเดาะเคราะห์ได้ผลดีดังนั้นจึงถือว่าต้นราชพฤกษ์เป็นไม้มงคลนาม

ในเบื้องต้น กรมป่าไม้ กระทรวงเกษตรและสหกรณ์ ได้จัดประชุมเรื่อง การกำหนดต้นไม้และสัตว์ประจำชาติ ครั้งที่ 2/2506 เมื่อวันที่ 13 มีนาคม 2506 และมีมติเป็นเอกฉันท์ให้กำหนดต้นราชพฤษ์หรือคูน เป็นต้นไม้ประจำชาติ ต่อมาเมื่อวันที่24พฤษภาคม 2544คณะกรรมการเอกลักษณ์ของชาติ ร่วมกับ กระทรวงการต่างประเทศ กระทรวงเกษตรและสหกรณ์ และกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ ได้ประชุมเรื่องการกำหนดเอกลักษณ์ประจำชาติไทยในเรื่องดอกไม้ประจำชาติ และได้ให้เหตุผลในการเลือกดอกราชพฤกษ์ (คูน) Ratchaphruek (Cassia fistula Linn.) เป็นดอกไม้ประจำชาติ เพื่อส่งเสริมสัญลักษณ์ประจำชาติไทย และเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพการประชาสัมพันธ์ส่งเสริมภาพลักษณ์ของประเทศไทยให้มีผลระยะยาว ด้วย




2 เกณฑ์การประเมิณต้นราชพฤกษ์
เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2544 คณะกรรมการเอกลักษณ์ของชาติ ได้มีข้อเสนอและได้สรุปให้มีการกำหนดสัญลักษณ์ประจำชาติ 3 สิ่ง ซึ่งประกอบไปด้วย ดอกไม้ สัตว์ และสถาปัตยกรรม ซึ่งจากการพิจารณาได้ข้อสรุปว่า ให้สัตว์ประจำชาติคือ “ช้างไทย” ส่วนในด้านสถาปัตยกรรมประจำชาติคือ “ศาลาไทย” และในส่วนของดอกไม้ประจำชาติก็คือ “ดอกราชพฤกษ์” โดยมีเหตุผลในการคัดเลือกดังนี้
