ท่าช้างวังหลวง หรือที่เรียกว่า ท่าพ

ท่าช้างวังหลวง หรือที่เรียกว่า ท่าพระ ในรัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราช เป็นบริเวณประตูเมืองที่นำช้างซึ่งเลี้ยงไว้ในพระบรมมหาราชวัง หรือพระราชวังหลวง ลงอาบน้ำในแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา จึงเรียกกันว่า "ท่าช้างวังหลวง" ต่อมาใน พ.ศ. 2351 พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราชโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้อัญเชิญพระศรีศากยมุนีจากสุโขทัยมาทางแพเพื่อมาประดิษฐานที่วัดสุทัศนเทพวราราม และพักแพที่ท่าช้างวังหลวงเพื่อประกอบพระราชพิธีสมโภชเป็นเวลา 3 วัน แต่พระพุทธรูปไม่สามารถผ่านประตูเมืองบริเวณนี้ได้ จึงโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้รื้อประตูและกำแพงบางส่วนออก แล้วสร้างประตูใหม่พระราชทานนามว่า "ประตูท่าพระ" แต่ประชาชนยังคงนิยมเรียกกันว่า ท่าช้าง หรือท่าช้างวังหลวง ปัจจุบันเป็นท่าเรือข้ามฟากซึ่งเอกชนได้เช่าจากกรุงเทพมหานครมาดำเนินการ ส่วนท่าพระปัจจุบันใช้เรียกท่าเรือบริเวณใกล้เคียงท่าช้างวังหลวง และยังเป็นชื่อวังท่าพระที่ตั้งอยู่บริเวณท่าช้างวังหลวงซึ่งเป็นที่ประทับของสมเด็จพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ เจ้าฟ้ากรมพระยานริศรานุวัดติวงศ์ ปัจจุบันคือมหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร
