ในการทดลองนี้จะใช้ความร้อนจากภายนอกเพื่อสร้างความแตกต่างทางอุณหภูมิของสารทำความเย็นภายในระบบ เพื่อหาค่า COP (สัมประสิทธิ์สมรรถนะ) เป็นค่าที่บ่งบอกถึงประสิทธิภาพในการทำความเย็นของระบบ Heat pump จากนั้นปรับค่าอัตราการไหลของน้ำ และเปรียบเทียบค่า COPactual (สัมประสิทธิ์สมรรถนะของการทดลองจริง) และ COPcarnot (สัมประสิทธิ์สมรรถนะของวัฏจักรในอุดมคติ)
